"Casual," I say, noddin'. "That might be the thing. I've never been a girl who likes to over-plan." This could be the most awesome patrol ever-- two Slayers and a werewolf, out in the night.
Melaka's kinda givin' us a strange look. I think. She's a little hard to figure, but then she might feel that way about us. Who knows?
I steadfastly don't aknowledge that we're getting strange looks from the time displaced Slayer. It's not like I haven't gotten strange looks before, after all. "Lead on." I tell them both, dropping back just a touch and shoving my hands into my pockets, surrepticiously going on alert mode. Sure I'm with two Slayers who can likely more than handle themselves. Doesn't mean I can't be a little protective.
I smile and bounce a few feet an' then do a cartwheel, I've got so much energy it ain't even funny! And the air, a lot clearer than back home, I gotta say. "Hey, I've been meanin' to ask. What exactly is the Slayer story? I mean, Urkonn told me some but I kinda wasn't payin' attention at the time." I kinda go quiet when I mention Urkonn, I try not to say his name much anymore, especially after what he did to Loo.
Where's Giles when you need'm? I wonder. "Haven't heard the 'one girl in every generation' story yet?" I ask. "....or in our case two....and now possibly three that you're here."
Of course, I have to turn a cartwheel too, just to prove I can. I brush my hands off and say, "Ah, the Slayer... the chosen one to fight against evil." It almost seems like a cliche to me since I've heard the story so many times.
I grin at Faith an' give some thought to what Oz said.
“Lemme think,” the conversation with Urkonn on top of the bus was a long time ago, an’ I’m not even sure what half of it meant. “Demons ruled the world, man came, the demons left, then came Lu-Vampires. They became a problem… so some guys made a girl strong so she could fight ‘em. But she died, but there’s always another. Always a woman--” I’m guessin’ ‘cause girls just got more goin’ for them. “They were trained by--” what did Urkoon call them? Lookers? Seers? Watchers. “Watchers. Descendants of the people that created the Slayer.”
What else was there? I know he said somethin’ else. “And then in the 21st whoozits there was a battle, a big one….” And suddenly it occurs to me, “…two Slayers? The chosen one comes in pairs...?”
"Uh, you got most of the story seems, and no, not in pairs. Ours is a not very funny story about how one of them died but was brought back. So there were two running around. I knew the one who died, then there was another one, and she died, and then we got Faith." I nod to said dark haired girl with the briefest of smiles. "So ours is more an interesting tale of what happens when people know CPR and use it."
I grin, "works to our advantage, so it ain't all bad, right?"
I turn the corner and bump into a dark-haired woman, her hair's all tangled an' she's holdin' her arm in such a way that makes me think it's broken. She glances at me for a moment an' then her eyes fix on Faith, I'm about to ask her if she's okay before she brushes past us, pushin' Faith outta the way.
I frown, watching the woman as well. "...no idea..." I say slowly, already considering following her. There are advantages to being able to become a wolf. Maybe I'm a little overprotective.
"Hunh, kinda strange though, if you ask me," I try to get WolfBoy to continue walkin', but he seems stuck as to what to do. Go and help and get his arm ripped off, or stay with me and Faith? "I'm guessin' she can handle herself in a fight, not well mind you... did you see the way she looked at Faith, almost like you were mortal enemies or some'in."
Yeah. Spun, this whole situation. I'm tempted to go after the girl --which seems to be the general consensus of the group--but there are downsides to followin' people as well. I tried tailin' people once or twice, but stealth was never my thing. I always went for the big guns and came back worse off than when I left. "Fan out, maybe? Oz takes left, I go right and F goes down the middle? Or should we find out what attacked her, 'cause I'm all over that." Whatever we do, we better do it fast, the woman's already turnin' a corner up ahead.
