Yesteray (especially the afternoon) was one of those days where it seemed like if something could keep me from getting home a few minutes early, it would happen. So by the time I got home last night, I was tired, cranky, and not in the mood to be attacked by the little yhetti (but of course we know that didn't stop him).
I woke up exhausted yesterday, and I knew it was basically because it was getting to the end of the week and with it being my first week back, it knew it was going to take a lot out of me. Luckily, I got to sit and clean lenses all morning, so moving wasn't too big of a problem. I guess the major negative stuff started happening when I went to get my snack. Lynn was eating lunch and she was telling me that her and Marilynn (they're ex sisters in law if I remember right) are waiting to hear if their niece has passed. The poor girl was eight when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, treated, went into remission for three months, then it came back and spread aggressively. She is eleven now and has been in hospice for nearly two months, having eaten nothing for the past seven weeks. She weighs under 40 pounds, and the only thing the girl came keep down is bits of Sprite every now and then. But despite all of that, she was interviewed by Fox 106.7 (a local radio station) for their Kid of the Week segment. Marilynn and Lynn couldn't believe how well she did in the interview. Lynn says she doesn't know what's keeping this girl alive, but my God, for not eating in seven weeks, she's surviving. I guess it's one of those things that you hope for the best despite everything that's happened.
So I go back to work, thinking about this girl, and one of the older ladies, Karan comes into the lab in complete tears. We try to ask her what's wrong, but she's so worked up that she can't answer us. We find out from her friend Aleta that she just recieved a message that her friend was murdered that morning. From what they know, the woman's husband had gotten into some kind of argument with his friend. Well, the guy came to the house yesterday morning, beat the snot out of the woman's husband, and when she came around the corner to see what the commotion was about, he shot her dead. The guy stole the husband's car and the police arrested him later that morning, still in the stolen car. The husband is still in critical condition from what I've heard.
So after those two stories, I definitely got a dose of the lesson "life is precious" and just felt quiet the rest of the day. And I agree with what Tona said. It doesn't matter what the argument is. You don't solve it with a gun.
The afternoon was busy. I had to final about five different cycles and drop three others, so by the time I got out of work, I was ready to go. No such luck. I lost my damn cell phone and had to go hunt for it. Lucky for me, it was left at Jimmy John's when I went to grab lunch, but still that was a 20 minute delay I could've done without. Then the drive home took forever because people don't realize that you can actually drive up to the speed limit. You know, little things like that. I finally made it to Kroger to grab groceries, and I go to return the bottles. Both bottle machines are broken! So I say whatever, I'll do my shopping, then I come return the cans. I get the groceries in 15 minutes flat. Easy. I go back to the can return, and I have to wait ten minutes because one of the machines is flat out down for the night, and there's a college student with about 50 dozen beer cans in front of me!
The couple of saving graces of the night were that I saved ten bucks at the grocery store (thank you Kroger Plus card!), I got one of those Bertolli dinners and it was DELICIOUS, and the cat (after attacking me thanks) helped me catch a couple of those damn beetle bugs that somehow got into the apartment. I rewarded him with a bit of ham and he seemed pretty pleased with himself.
Okay, time to shower and get one more day under my belt. Tonight it's chores. I have some stuff to do tomorrow, but save for the vet appointment, it's fun stuff. So yes, I am looking highly forward to my weekend.
