Aside from a small bit of miscommunication (which got cleared up) I had an awesome weekend. I got to spend some quality time with someone I've been wanting to get to know for a while. With any luck there'll be more times like this.
Friday night went to go see Harry Potter in IMAX. Great movie, though a few inconsistencies from the book and previous movies. I won't go into detail cuz I know some of you haven't seen it yet. Seeing it in IMAX was interesting. It was the first regular film that I had watched using the IMAX process. Some of the effects were enhanced (unsure if intentional) by using the IMAX process. For example, in the opening credits when the pages are turning it actually looks like the pages are coming at you when they turn. Unfortunately, some of the scenes didn't render well to IMAX, specifically scenes where they did a blur effect. The blur effect was enhanced and actually hurt my eyes to see.
Saturday went to brunch with above friend and went out window shopping at electronic stores. The compulsion to buy things was very great (good thing we both left the credit cards at home :0) ). I did purchase something to quell the urge, and it was something that I did need. When I moved a couple of months ago, I accidentally threw out a bag of stuff that was on my desk (got mixed in the dump pile for some reason). In that bag was my digital camera charger and spare battery. Doh! I had gone online and checked a couple of local shops and found that everywhere wanted $70 to replace the charger. I found a universal charger at Frye's Electronics for $20. Score! Got it home and it works like a charm :0)
Sunday had a wonderful brunch with said friend and his roommates and one of their friends. Then we all went out to watch Kill Bill 2. I have to say that I enjoyed KB1 a lot better than KB2. I found KB2 anti-climactic and formulaic. Afterwards I went home and helped
stereobare save some money. Over the past week or two he had been playing around with his car stereo system because he found that most of his sound was coming from a single channel, the other side was extremely weak. When he was checking things out he discovered that CarToys (who installed the system) had done a nightmare of a wiring job. He (with some of my assistance) fixed the main problem, but discovered another issue. While fixing the other issue, his deck stopped working. It just refused to turn on. He had checked all the inline fuses on all the wires and none were burned out. When I got home I listened to what he had done and what the problem was. It turned out to be a simple fix. One thing he didn't check was whether there was a fuse on the deck itself. Evidently a lot of older or cheaper decks don't have them. He had missed it because it was covered with a plastic plate. Turns out, that's the fuse that had blown. He replaced it and now everything's good to go. Saved him from spending $45 per hour for diagnostics.
That, in a nutshell, is how my weekend was.
