I am a failure.

Well, tomorrow's it. The last day of Nanowrimo. I have exactly 7,382 words. Yes. I barely broke 7K. What went wrong between planning in October and now? Life. In my defense, I was only able to write 6 times. 6 days out of the 29 we've had so far. Mean teachers, why didn't they care that I've been trying to become a marathon writer? ::sigh:: I can't blame them. Plenty of other people have school and still made the deadline.

Whoo. Thank god that's over. Yes, I am feeling better, and no, I won't be extending my pity party. Instead, I've got a plan. :) hmmm... I'm seeing a pattern here. By jove! I think I know what my problem is; I'm a hopeless optimist. :/

Ah, yes, the plan, which I'm writing down purely for posterity. Since this is not my year to win Nano, I've decided to slow down a bit. (Don't say it. I know, I know. Slow down? To what? I can't get any slower. -.~) But by slow down, I mean that I'm actually going to finish up that research that was left over from October. Might be a good idea to research my setting, at least. Flying by the seat of my pants is fun, but I don't think
celestat is going to like my book quite as much if I butcher Danish history worse than bologna. (Yes, I'm attempting to use more metaphors/similes. I know they aren't tip top, but sometimes I get lucky. -,~) So I've got 4 books that focus solely on Danish Vikings, and I'm writing scenes down as they come to me, or as I grab them and drag them kicking and screaming like Emily at nap time. So I've not stopped writing, just stopped writing blind. Truthfully, I'll probably write better with more research, because I won't have to stop and think about whether I'm bullshitting or being accurate. I've got 7K of BS already, but I'm not going to go back and fix it. That's one of the things that I'm going to continue, even though Nano is over. I'm going to write as fast as possible, on the days I get to write, and I'm not going to go back and edit, or change things.

My new, personal goal for this novel? Have it ready for submission to a publisher, with the sequels planned out in detail (meaning I'll actually have an outline), before Nanowrimo '07. That way, I might have a better shot next year. :) I'll win eventually, even if it takes me a few tries.

To everyone that made it this year, Congrats, you totally rock, and I am in awe of your author-thy powers!

BTW, If I have time tomorrow after class, I plan on writing till 11:50pm, hopefully to break 10K. At least that way I might not feel totally pathetic.
