Comments: Hey everyone! This is a new mini-fic I'm working on. I don't know how long it will be, since it was originally supposed to be a oneshot, but I'm going to guess it will be around five chapters. It's also my first Uruha/Aoi multi-chaptered fic, so I'm excited to write this. :3

A huge thank you to my lovely beta! She helped me last minute with the synopsis and I will be forever grateful. ♥

“I hate summer.” Yuu whined to himself as he trudged sluggishly along on the pavement, the weight of his school bag weighing down on his back heavily. As was the season's treasure, the sun was bright and hot in the clear blue sky and it only served to add more sweat to the raven-haired boy's forehead as he walked home from school. Every step he took just made him more tired, his feet and legs aching from having to walk the distance. It wasn't all bad, though. Luckily for Yuu, it was Friday so he wouldn't have to face school the next day and could stay inside, where at least it was air-conditioned for the whole weekend without having to face the blistering heat of the summer sun.

Turning a corner, the brunet stopped for a moment when he noticed his shoe lace was untied. Deciding he wouldn't risk to see if he would end up tripping over and falling flat on his face, he crouched down and began to lazily tie it back up. So focused on the trivial task, he failed to see the car that swerved on the road; heading his way. Yuu also failed to notice the group of rowdy teenagers who were occupying the beat-up car that was slowing down next to him on the road, until he felt something hard hit the side of his head, causing him to stop what he was doing and yelp in pain.

Hearing the cacophony of male laughter and rude insults being thrown at him, Yuu clutched the side of his head as his dark brown eyes saw a large rock that was just about the size of his fist lying nearby on the pavement, causing his heart to skip a beat in fear. Something like that was certainly out of place on the clean, smooth side walk and it made him stiffen, waiting for something else to be thrown his way.

“Stupid fag!” Ominously, Yuu slowly turned to look at the car of teenagers that cajoled and screamed obscenities at him from inside their vehicle. For a split second, he wondered if they would do anything else and felt unrestrained dread creep up the back of his spine, suddenly telling himself he should run and get away from here before something worse happened to him. Even so, the brunet couldn't help his temper and found himself glaring at the immature pricks that were currently laughing at him.

The side of his head hurt and the place where the rock had hit him burned viscously as if he had a splitting headache. Thankfully, when the brunet managed to remove his hand and stare down at his palm in worry, it was clean of blood. Telling himself to ignore the guys in the car, he sat there silently as he averted his gaze from the vehicle. From experience he knew that giving some kind of reaction would just encourage them more, goad them into doing something else and he didn't want to provoke them. That was the last thing he wanted. Yuu could hear more insults being tossed his way before he heard the rumbling sound of the car revving up and driving away, leaving nothing but a cloud of exhaust smoke in its wake.

It had all happened so fast, that the brunet sat crouched on the pavement for a good few minutes before he realized it was all over and he was alone. Recollecting himself, Yuu heaved a sigh of annoyance and relief while he finished tying his shoelaces and lifted himself up so that he could start walking again. By now, the car was long gone and all the brunet heard was the consistent chirping of cicadas in the empty street. As usual, there was nobody around to see the sinister act those guys had just pulled on him, but even if there was someone around it wasn't like anyone would come and help him. It had happened before, people turning a blind eye and pretending they didn't see the horrible acts of bullying and harassment he was subjected to even in broad daylight.

At least all that those guys had done was throw a rock at him. It could have been much worse, much much worse, as horrible as it sounded, so Yuu was grateful even though the circumstances were grim. Still, what could he do when he was gay and everyone in this godforsaken town were homophobic bastards? Frowning to himself, the brunet shoved his calloused hands into the pockets of his black school pants and continued to walk, eager to finally get back home for the day. With all that had just happened, Yuu had nearly forgotten why he was so eager about returning home, today in particular. It wasn't just the fact that it was the weekend and he could escape the hell hole he called school, not to mention all the asshole students and teachers who made his life just a little bit more difficult-no, it was the fact that he had someone who actually cared about him waiting for him at home. Yuu smiled at the thought, his face coming to mind immediately as he stepped onto the lone street which hosted his house.

Unable to contain himself, the brunet ran the rest of the way to his home and fumbled with his keys to open the front door. Already expecting it, Yuu could hear the sharp barking from his pet dog from inside the house and prayed within his mind that the bundle of fluff would shut up before the neighbours started complaining. That was the last thing he needed, more people bothering him. Unlocking the front door, Yuu managed to maneuver himself inside the house, blocking the open gap the door produced with his feet from the scraggly white bichon frise that was jumping up at his legs; unable to contain her excitement.

“Calm down, you crazy dog.” Yuu ordered with a laugh, casually dumping his school bag by the door as he knelt down so he could stroke and pat her soft back affectionately. Momo was too delighted by her master's return that the little bichon jumped around happily and licked the brunet's hand; sniffing at him eagerly to see where he had been for today.

“Honestly, I've only been gone for a day.” he chuckled, always expecting the dog to act like this when he arrived home. After the bothersome events of today though, Yuu was happy that at least there was someone to welcome him home, even if it was just his beloved pet. Both of his parents worked full time and wouldn't be home until this evening, but it wasn't like they would be overly concerned if he told them about what had happened. As usual, they would just blame him and say it was his own fault-that it was what he got for being gay. Yuu frowned, his mood dropping a little as he sat there on the floor and scratched Momo behind one of her floppy ears.

“I hate it here.” he mumbled, his voice loud in the quiet house. The brunet's head still throbbed from where he had been hit, but Yuu did his best to ignore it. It would go away soon, and as long as it wasn't bleeding then there shouldn't be too much of a problem. By now, Momo had calmed down and was sitting down on her hind legs as she stared at her master expectantly; her expression strangely aware of what was happening. She tentatively licked Yuu's hand, which had long stopped stroking her and it made him turn to the white bichon with a smile as he started to rub her head again.

Standing up, Yuu stretched his aching muscles and headed towards the kitchen. After finishing off a big glass of water and grabbing a snack to eat, the brunet then retraced his steps back through the house. Picking up his bag on the way, Yuu started up the stairs to his bedroom with Momo following behind him obediently, not wanting to be left alone.

When the brunet reached his room, he dropped his bag on the floor and closed the bedroom door behind him once Momo had entered. Sitting down in his comfy desk chair, Yuu was quick to turn on his computer and log on, his fingers working furiously against the keys to type in his password.

“Damn thing takes forever.” he groaned in annoyance, reaching for his headset while the computer logged him on at the pace of a snail. Slouching back in his chair, Yuu scowled impatiently as he waited for everything to get running. Momo had taken up residence on the floor, perfectly content with sleeping on one of her master's feet.

As soon as his desktop had loaded, Yuu grabbed the mouse and moved it over a program's icon, clicking at it repeatedly in the hope it would open quicker. Realistically it would just send his computer into a frenzy as it attempted to load, but the brunet had been anxiously waiting all week for this moment. He had been waiting all week just to see Kouyou's handsome face again, to hear his deep voice and feel connected with the only friend he had left.

About a week ago, Kouyou had told him he was going on a week-long camping trip with some friends from college. At that time, Yuu had been understanding and had smiled into the camera that reflected his face, hoping the disappointment in his eyes wasn't too obvious when he told the other man to have a great time. Inside, he was jealous and frustrated that Kouyou was leaving him for a week, going off with people he could actually spend time with in real life rather than talking to a computer screen.

Sometimes, or rather most of the time, Yuu hated the fact that the blond was older and attended college, no longer having to live through the horrors that were high school. Instead Kouyou got to attend the courses that he wanted, have a part-time job that he enjoyed and not have to deal with the shit that Yuu was put through nearly every day. It wasn't his fault, the brunet knew, but he was definitely envious.

What Yuu probably hated the most though was that Kouyou lived in another prefecture, too far for him to travel without the company of his parents. Even if he asked them to go as a family or alone, he highly doubted their answer would be yes. Especially if they found out that the 'friend' their son wanted to visit was the target of an unrequited love.

It seemed silly for him to be so infatuated with someone he had met over the Internet, but the brunet had known the other man for nearly three years now. They had met in some online chatroom-Yuu feeling lonely and bored at the tender age of fourteen had decided to try something different for a change instead of playing MMO's and downloading porn. He was hoping to find someone, a friend that wasn't as cruel or as judgemental as the students in his school, or as disloyal as his so-called friends that stopped talking to him when he came out.

Kouyou was eighteen at the time, fresh out of high school and waiting for his first day of college to begin. Somehow, they had ended up talking to each other. How and why, Yuu wasn't exactly sure because even now he wondered why the other man had started to talk to him considering their age difference. Thankfully it seemed their three, nearly four year gap didn't pose too much of a problem.

At first it had been about awkwardly asking each other the standard questions. How old are you? Where do you live? What do you like? Yuu's eagerness to find someone to connect with had caused him to spill nearly everything about him to the other man. He had been naïve and somewhat foolish trusting Kouyou so much, because he could have been anyone behind the screen. An old man, a potential stalker or some prick getting their kicks. It wasn't until a few months of talking and developing friendship that he had asked for a picture, his curiosity finally getting the better of him. Kouyou had agreed, but in return for a picture of him.

It was probably incredibly creepy, but the brunet had kept the picture the other man had sent him. It was one of Kouyou in his school days, possibly his last day. His hair was still a dark black, and looked smooth and shiny in the sunlight while a huge grin was on his face. Someone's arm was around his shoulder, but whoever it was had been cropped out of the picture. Kouyou looked so happy, smiling at the camera with his golden brown eyes reflecting his emotions in the moment of the photograph.

Sorry I look like a dork, was what he had typed as soon as the photo had been sent. All Yuu could do was stare memorized at his computer screen, feeling a spark of attraction flare inside him as he gazed at the picture, the ache of longing and wanting settling into him. That was when he realized he didn't really like the girl he was currently dating, why he always found himself staring at the guys in his school and why he started to think of Kouyou a bit more than he should have.

“Yuu, are you there?”

Startling at the sound of his own name being called, the brunet's eyes focused on the glowing screen, which currently hosted a video stream of the very man he was thinking about. Just like that, Yuu was rendered speechless as it dawned on him that he had accepted a video call with Kouyou unconsciously.

How long had he been sitting here and reminiscing? Blushing at being caught off guard, the brunet collected his scrambled thoughts down memory lane and smiled widely as he took in Kouyou's beautiful face.

“Is my mic not working or something-”

“Hey! Sorry, I just spaced out a little.” Yuu admitted sheepishly, trying to desperately get rid of the embarrassed blush that stained his cheeks. No doubt there was the most stupidest expression on his face while he thought about the blond-haired man, who was currently staring at him with some concern.

“You okay? You look kinda down.” Kouyou commented, bringing a half-empty bottle of cool beer to his bow-shaped lips to take a bountiful swig.

“Oh well, school's just being a pain right now.” Yuu lied, shuffling around in his chair and hoping the blond would buy it. Heaven forbid if Kouyou ever found out about his secret love for him. Yuu liked to think he knew the other man enough to know what his reaction would be. Hopefully he would brush it off, the type of person to put their friendship first over one-sided romantic feelings. They had never really talked about it, for all Kouyou knew, his online friend was straight just like him.

There was a slight chance that the blond would instead be disgusted-call him a sick freak, a faggot just like everyone in school did just to bully and humiliate him further. However, none of that compared to losing Kouyou as a friend, or damaging what they currently had beyond repair. No. Yuu was content with not telling him about the romantic feelings which had materialized over the past years in order to keep their blossoming friendship.

Besides, it wasn't like they could actually be together, what with Kouyou living in Tokyo with his mother and attending college while he was barely finished with high school and all the way in Mie with his strict parents. The chances of them even meeting seemed too far out of reach because of the travel time and expenses, not to mention the fact that the brunet was far too nervous and shy to even bring the subject up.

Yuu didn't have a job. Without some sort of aid from his parents, he had no way to get to Tokyo, especially if they knew it was to see a man four years older than him. Even if he did somehow come up with a way to see Kouyou in person, his parents were nosy enough to find out what he was doing and would most likely prevent it from happening.

It took the brunet a while to realize he had spaced out again, his name being called over and over again by Kouyou until he snapped out of it.

“Yuu, what's wrong?” he asked worriedly, lips contorted into a frown while his eyes were narrowed suspiciously. The last time he had talked to Yuu was nearly a week ago, but he had seemed fine then, albeit a bit disappointed that he was going away. He could read the teenager like an open book, and right now there was definitely something on his mind, something that was bothering him greatly. “You're acting very strangely today.”

“I guess I'm just a little tired.” Yuu sighed, berating himself for being such an air-head and zoning out again while talking to the blond. As if he hadn't already embarrassed himself enough the first time, he'd just had to go and make a fool out of himself again.

“Really? Is school that bad at the moment?” Kouyou questioned, arching one of his eyebrows suspiciously as he continued to drink his alcohol.

“Just a bit.” Yuu replied, shrugging his shoulders. It wasn't so much as school, just the people in it that thought it was fun to torment him endlessly. He didn't really care what they thought of him, but it got on his nerves that they acted on it and caused so many problems for him. “Isn't it too early to be drinking?” he asked, changing the subject when he saw Kouyou open another beer, the faint muscles in his arms rippling as he did so, much to the brunet's visual appreciation.

“I'm celebrating!” Kouyou announced cheerfully, the strap from the white singlet he was wearing slipping off one of his bare shoulders. He quickly pulled it back up before he started to talk again, nearly making Yuu's lip twitch in annoyance. “Just finished an essay, and I'm pretty damn proud of it.”

“That's great, I suppose some congrats are in order?”

“I believe so. Feel free to praise me, I know my professor will.” Kouyou gloated, smirking so smugly at the camera that it made Yuu's heart and stomach flutter in longing all at once.

“To reward myself, I might buy a new guitar. There's this ESP that I have my eye on, and it's just gorgeous. Here, I'll send you a pic.” Kouyou said, leaning forward in his seat as his eyes narrowed in concentration while they roved over the computer screen. After searching throughout several folders, a small pop-up appeared on Yuu's monitor and he clicked 'accept'.

“Wow, you're right.” Yuu remarked as he studied the picture of a sleek black ESP guitar, feeling envious that the blond was able to afford something so beautiful. “I wouldn't mind having one myself. Think you can buy me one?” he joked, chuckling when he heard his friend crack up with laughter.

“In your dreams, kid.” Kouyou retorted, his grin becoming even wider when the brunet pouted at the pet name. “On the topic of guitars though, are you still practising?”

“Well... yes and no.” Yuu replied reluctantly. Truth be told, he had gotten into an argument with his school's only guitar teacher because he had called the man out on insulting him, So now, the middle-aged man refused to teach him even though he had begged and pleaded for some kind of forgiveness, not wanting to give up on his passion. Unfortunately without lessons, the brunet had no other options but to try and teach himself since his parents wouldn't hire a tutor for him, but he was still an amateur so his self-taught lessons had just led the aspiring guitarist into fits of frustration.

“I don't have a teacher any more.” he admitted shamefully, watching the blond's eyes widen with disbelief.

“We had an argument, so he won't teach me.” Yuu grumbled, averting his gaze from the blond's disgruntled image and instead focussed on the keyboard. “I even apologized, but he still said no.”

“Well, that sucks, your teacher sounds like a dumbass anyway from what you've told me. So I wouldn't-holy shit, are you bleeding?!” Kouyou exclaimed in horror, golden-brown eyes squinting as if to confirm that it was really thin rivulets of blood currently sliding down the side of his friend's pale face.

“Huh?” Yuu looked down at the corner of his screen where there was a footage of his own visage. He stared in shock when he saw the trickles of blood drip down by his ear. Immediately, the brunet's hand followed the sticky trail, feeling along his scalp for some kind of gash. Yuu found a bump, hissing when his fingers prodded at the tender flesh and pain shot through him like a jagged knife. This spot was where he had checked earlier on the street, but as his hand drifted further down, the brunet could feel a large, wet patch of hair and torn skin.

Withdrawing his hand, Yuu stared in horror at the sticky blood that covered his fingers, the metallic red glinting in the light of the sun. Faintly, he could hear Kouyou's frightened gasp in his headphones, but for the most part ignored it as he looked at the crimson that stained the tips of his fingers in disbelief.

“What the fuck happened?”

Yuu's attention was torn away from his bloodied fingers at the sound of Kouyou's worried voice. Glancing back at the screen, seeing the blond's terrified face,Yuu didn't know what to say or do. He had never told his friend about the constant harassment he received on a daily basis, because he hadn't confessed to being gay just in case he lost Kouyou too like everyone else. If he lied about the reason why people bullied him, then he knew the blond wouldn't believe him for a second, resulting in endless nagging and pestering until he got the answer he wanted.

So Yuu decided to keep his mouth shut.

“Oh, this?” It was definitely a bad idea to try and laugh off something so serious, but the brunet had a tendency to turn into an awful liar when he was feeling extremely uncomfortable. This was one of those times, even if it bothered Yuu that he was lying to his best friend, he didn't want to risk Kouyou finding out. He needed the blond's friendship too damn much to even consider telling the truth.

“I must have fallen and hit my head.”

“Don't give me that bullshit.” Kouyou retorted angrily, not buying the lame excuse the brunet had given him for a second. Then again, it was painstakingly obvious that Yuu wasn't going to tell the truth, as he could see the sudden defiance on his face and the way he went silent and rigid in his seat, instantly becoming stubborn and withdrawn.

“Whatever.” Shoulders slumping in defeat, Kouyou huffed in annoyance when he realized he wouldn't get any answers out of his friend tonight. “Just go get yourself cleaned up.”

“It can wait-”

“No, it can't. You're fucking bleeding out of your head!”

Yuu sighed heavily. Of course Kouyou was right, he would be an idiot to continue arguing. He should have checked his head when he got home as well, just in case but he had been so eager to see the blond, especially since he was gone for nearly a week. Only now did he feel foolish and stupid for not making sure he wasn't hurt.

“I'll be back.” he mumbled, scrambling to get his headphones off and leave, embarrassment overtaking his features. Sensing her master was getting up, Momo scurried to her feet and followed him out to the bathroom.

After cleaning away the blood, Yuu checked his head in the mirror to find a small cut. Prodding at it tentatively, the brunet found it had stopped bleeding and applied some antiseptic, making a mental note to inform his parents just in case he had to go to the hospital for stitches. Though Yuu knew he would just be disappointed with their response, since their concern was rather limited for incidents like this.

When the brunet returned back to his room, Kouyou was waiting for him and after making sure he had tended to the wound, the conversation steered to more pleasant topics and much to Yuu's relief, they were talking like they always did. As if it were any other day. Yuu was grateful the blond didn't bring it up again and by the time they said goodbye, he felt a lot better with himself.

That was until his mother came home, closely followed by his father. The plan was to avoid them for as long as possible, but when Yuu's mother called him down for dinner, the brunet gave in to the rumbling of his tummy and made his way downstairs to eat.

Seeing his parents tired faces as they discussed the matters of their days at work, Yuu decided to keep his mouth shut and was quiet throughout dinner, not daring to say a word of what had happened today. At some point during the evening, he could feel his mother's dark eyes boring into the back of his head, and the brunet knew she had already figured out why he was injured.

He wanted to tell her, like he had promised himself he would when cleaning the wound in the bathroom, but chickened out at the last minute. Unlike other mothers, Sachiko wasn't the maternal type, hence why Yuu was an only child and was closer to the dog instead of the woman who had given birth to him. So he didn't even want to tell her that some kids from his school had hit him in the head with a rock.

Sometimes Yuu wondered why they even bothered to conceive him if all they did was ignore him. It wasn't what he wanted, the strained relationship he had with both of his parents had always been there, ever since he was born but the brunet was used to it so much so that it was normal. When he finished high school, got a job and saved up enough money, he was going to leave and never look back. Knowing his parents, Yuu knew they would only have enough emotion to feel indifferent about it.

Unlike them though, the brunet was excited to leave home. Yuu knew exactly where he was going to go. He may have never met Kouyou in person, but they were still friends, good friends, and the blond clearly cared for him as one. So he knew that when he left home and travelled to Tokyo, Kouyou would at least support and help him. Perhaps they could even live together and be flatmates. Yuu smiled at the idea, liking it instantly.

Kouyou was a college student, but he still lived with his mother since their apartment was close to campus, however he had mentioned a few weeks ago that there was a possibility he would start to look at getting his own place.

A knock on Yuu's bedroom door brought him out of his innermost fantasies and before he could answer, his mother was already entering the room, closing the door behind her with a sound click.

“You're supposed to wait until I say you can come in.” he stated sarcastically as the middle-aged brunette made her way over to the bed and sat down silently, the age lines on her face firmer than the way her lips were pursed.

“Let me check your head.” Sachiko ordered firmly, patting the empty space beside her in hope Yuu would join her. Instead her son stared at her blankly in mild disbelief before stubbornly shaking his head in refusal, crossing his arms as he did so. Now she was concerned? What about when they were having dinner, when his father was present? Yuu had to wonder if he could even consider these people his parents sometimes. All they seemed to care about was themselves, their work, too absorbed within their own lives to notice him, let alone care about the fact their son was being constantly harassed.

“Don't make this difficult, Yuu. Your father is already upset with you.”

“He has no reason to be upset with me.” Yuu retorted hotly, not wanting to look at his mother's stern face while he spoke. He couldn't believe how she was acting so calm, so uncaring and cold towards him. How could she have such careless disregard towards his well-being? Yuu didn't understand nor did he want to because it was disturbing how his parents cared so little.

“Will you just come over here?” Sachiko snapped out, her gaze hard and reprimanding as she waited for the brunet to do as he was told. Eventually, Yuu stiffly rose from his desk with a perturbed scowl stuck to his face like glue, and reluctantly went to take a seat beside his mother. Because even though it wasn't the care he desired, it seemed like his mother was still concerned about him being physically hurt. It was better than nothing at least, he mused grimly.

As Sachiko parted her son's dark brown hair to find the gash she had seen earlier at dinner, Yuu sat there quietly and didn't say another word, nose twitching when the heavy scent of his mother's perfume irritated him. There was no energy left to argue. He couldn't talk to his parents about anything. Grades were never good enough for their standards, hobbies were always shunned and the topic of friendships and relationships never arose. There was nothing he had in common with either one of his parents, except for DNA. It bothered him, but there wasn't much he could do about it. He couldn't just make his parents change, nor was he going to put in the effort to try.

“What did you do?” Sachiko's voice broke through the tedious silence, and the question left Yuu stunned before his anger spiked tenfold. What made her think that he had done something wrong?

“I didn't do anything.” he bit out, flinching when the gash on the side of his head was prodded at almost viscously. Yuu could practically see the frown on his mother's face, and just allowed the wave of shame and regret to smack against him for snapping at her. This was always how these conversations went, he should be used to them but the brunet found himself becoming more and more upset after each one.

“You're always doing something.” Sachiko huffed in distaste, annoyed with her son's behaviour. If he had just kept his mouth shut then predicaments like this wouldn't be happening in the first place. But no, nothing was ever simple with Yuu and he had to go and 'come out' to his family and friends, who now shunned him like some parasitic leech while he alienated himself from everyone.

“It's your own fault.” she muttered under her breath, finally making the brunet explode with anger.

“Oh, so it's my own goddamn fault that some homophobic asshole hits me in the head with a rock?!” Yuu burst out, utterly furious as he lifted himself up from the bed and turned to face his mother with a spiteful glare, wondering how she could say such a thing, especially straight to his face. He was her son, she was supposed to protect and look out for him, yet Yuu was now aware she was just as bad as everyone else who hated him. “I'm sorry I'm such an inconvenience to you!”

“Yuu-”

“Some mother you are!” Yuu spat out, not giving Sachiko the chance to say anything else. He strode over to the door, pulling it open so roughly he felt the muscles in his shoulder hurt and waited for his mother to take the hint and leave him alone. If all she was going to do was scold and reprimand him for someone else's hateful actions, then he didn't want her in here, even if she was tending to the wound on the back of his head as if she really was a loving mother.

“Just get out.” he said coldly, not wanting to continue with this conversation any longer. It was over before it even began, and it only lead to endless arguments and echoing screams throughout the house. Yuu didn't want to listen to what his mother had to say. He'd heard it all before anyway, so there was no point. The sooner he got out of here, the better. Without another word, Sachiko packed away the first-aid kit and left without sparing a single glance backwards.

Slamming the door shut, Yuu took in a deep breath, trying to clear his mind from the negative build-up of emotions that clashed violently like a wave inside him. When he felt a little better, even though he could still feel the rush of adrenaline and anger working it's way through his body, he walked over to his computer desk and sat down, knowing just the person who could cheer him up.

Comments: First chapter complete! Let me know what you think, since I'm not really that confident with this fic. I don't usually write this pairing solo, so any interest in it all would be appreciated. Oh, and I can now also gurantee that my other fanfiction, Miai will be updated soon. It's currently in the hands of my beta and she hopes to have it finished before the end of the month. :)
