Несколько дней назад огромным удовольствим наткнулась на работе на цитату из Noel'я Coward'a
“Time has convinced me of one thing: Television is for appearing on - not for looking at”.
Вообще прекрасный был человек, вот еще пара цитат:

Это все немедленно отвлекло меня от работы, потому что мы его все знаем и любим за чудесную песенку Dance Little Lady:
С которой начинается блокбастер 1928 года "Palais da danse" (фильм конечно немой, но там все вокруг музыки и танцев (сюжет увлекательнейший) и начинается именно с цитаты из песни).
Кстати, в книге "Inside British jazz" пишут, что старшее поколение в 20-е годы было озабочено дурным влиянием джаза на девушек - что музыка подтачивала моральные устои, всячески чрезмерно раскрепощала сексуально и тп. Собственно, песенка ровно об этом:

В Великобритании, кстати, в 1918 году дали право голоса женщинам старше 30, и в 20-е всячески шла борьба за равное с мужчинами право голоса. Которая увенчалась успехом как раз в 1928 год. Так что джаз, короткие стрижки, стиль одежы - все это всячески ассоциировалось с бунтарством и, безусловно, все большей потерей молодежью моральных ориентиров! Длина юбки, опять же!! И каре/боб *нервно смотрит в зеркало*
