This was my vm_santa bonus gift to applebashed. She wanted Logan meeting Summer Roberts. The only Summer Roberts I know is the one from O.C. and well, I tried to grant her wish. But. But. I’ve never written Summer before. Or any O.C. for that matter. If she comes out a bit airheaded it’s because I’m currently re-watching s1. Sorry! :P

A huge thank you to starblossom56 for being so kind to offer to beta and to evie_0 for the quick read through. What would I do without you? :D

As Logan got out of his Range Rover, the sight of a short brunette, toppling with Luis Vuitton bags, caught his eyes and he had to stop for a moment to take in the spectacle. Logan was sure she was trying to carry the various suitcases, but it more looked like she was fighting them, as if all that brown leather had it in for a certain brunette.

Logan chuckled to himself before locking the car with the remote on his key chain and got closer.

“Need any help with that?”

A groan. A face hidden behind a large brown box. Huh. She did own things without the classy brand after all.

“No,” was the strained, and annoyed, response.

And then she fell. Well, more exactly the suitcase in her arms, and her with it. Logan could see her face now, round big eyes, plump lips, nose slightly up-turned. She was cute; he had to give her that.

“Yeah. I’m betting that was your plan all along. Getting to know the sidewalk a bit better. We have great pavement here in Neptune.”

The girl narrowed her eyes at him from her spot on the sidewalk. “Was that supposed to be funny? Cause I can’t tell.”

Logan crouched beside the girl, and started gather up her belongings from the ground. One suitcase had opened when it hit the ground and Logan took the time to inspect a skimpy, pink nightgown that had fallen out, with a raised eye-brow.

“New here?”

The girl snatched the gown out of his hands fiercely. “Yes!”

She scampered off the ground, rubbing the dirt off her butt in a way Logan found just adorable and started to gather her belongings.

“Well, welcome to Hearst then! Enjoy your stay. If you don’t get raped, or shot, it’s your lucky day.”

“Still. Not seeing the funny.” Summer smiled, not convinced.

“I’m Logan.”

“Summer,” she muttered.

“So. Summer. Why did get kicked out of your last school?”

“How did you-?” Summer asked surprised, only to narrow her eyes at him again, this time with her lips pressed tightly together. “Did Cohen send you? Are you one of his nerd pals-cousins-whatever, here to check up on me? Because I said I could make it to Neptune all by myself and I can-”

“Whoa.” Logan held up his hands in surrender.

“…You’re not?”

“It’s the middle of the semester. And most people starting college are at least a bit happy about it. You looked like you might kill your roommate. Without making it look like an accident. I figured your parents either moved here and you were forced to come along, or you were kicked out of school.“

“Both, actually,” Summer muttered.

“See? I knew it. I’m a people person.”

“My dad’s a plastic surgeon. He kinda, broke up with his girlfriend and started seeing his ex-wife again and they moved here to survive the wrath of Julie Cooper.“

“Sounds like first class Neptune drama, I’m sure you’ll fit right in.”

“If I survive. This is like, the ghetto. A college-like, beachside located ghetto, but still.”

“So what did you do? To get kicked out of school?”

Summer sighed. “It involves bunnies. And a pot-smoking stinky guy with a bad hair-do.”

Logan smiled, playing along. “Doesn’t it always?”

“It’s a long story.”

Logan fiddled with the key in his jeans pocket. Should he leave now? The girl, Summer, had said she didn’t want his help.

“You may carry my bags now.”

Logan started at her, incredulous and almost burst out laughing.

“You know, if you want,” Summer added, a little more hesitant. “I could use the help.”

“Sure. Why not?”

It turned out, Summer’s problems with her bags earlier was understandable, Logan was not sure what this girl had packed, but it weighed tons and unfortunately for Logan, her dorm room was located on the second floor.

On their second run to retrieve Summer’s things, she leaned in conspiratorially to whisper in his ear. “Do you know that girl?”

“What?”

Summer nodded to across the road. “She’s, like, staring at me.”

Logan easily spotted the girl in question. Veronica. At her car, a dazed expression on her face. When she caught Logan looking she quickly averted her eyes, and went back to searching in her bag, probably for her car keys.

It had been one week since he had to tell her things were over. One week since Veronica had stood eye to eye before the feared Hearst rapist. All while Logan had been at a completely different location, unable to do anything about it. His heart ached every time he saw her, his longing was eating at him, gnawing a whole in his gut. He got the urge to just run up to her, take her in his arms, but knew he had no right to. He was not Veronica Mars’ boyfriend anymore. And he was the one who had made that decision.

Why did he break up with her again?

“She’s…no one.”

Summer caught him staring and concluded the obvious. “She’s your ex,” she said, with sadness in her voice. “Bad break-up?”

“More like, recent.”

Summer smiled sympathetically, before her features took on an annoyed look.

“Hey!” She punched him in the side. “Are you trying to make her jealous?! Is that why you’re doing this noble-gentleman-act? To get her back? I knew it! You are so cliché!”

“What? No! I was the one who broke up with her!” Logan started laughing again. “Are you always this violent?”

“Yes!”

Logan was rendered speechless. “…All right, then!”

They walked in silence the last run up to Summer’s dorm room. Her roommate was nowhere to be seen and Logan loaded the last of Summer’s stuff on her bed since the other bed was already packed.

“Sorry, I yelled at you. And accused you it wasn’t-”

“Hey, being at the end of accusations? What I do best.”

“I just really liked my old school.”

Logan nodded, watching Summer silently.

“Well, it was nice to meet you.”

“Yeah, you too. Thanks for the help, Logan”

“I guess I’ll see you around then.”

“Sure.” Logan turned to leave but was stopped by Summer’s voice. “Logan?”

“Yeah?”

“If you would want to make her jealous - I mean if you really like her - I guess I could help out. I mean, I have a boyfriend, but I could probably find someone-“

“Thanks Summer, but…”

“No, thanks?”

“Yeah.”

Logan gave her one last, weak smile before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
