It's all about me!

Or, at least it is tonight, on a quiet Sunday evening.

1. Head seems to be fine - they did find a brain (no, really!) and it seems to not be the reason for the impromptu swan dives. That means that I was having spontaneous fainting episodes (heart), not spontaneous convulsions (brain). But it hasn't happened again, so I'm chalking it up to coincidence. And maybe some bad salmon that first time.

2. Job - still employed, but the next few months are going to be interesting. Like a couple hundred million other people, every day brings something new for me to worry about, employment-wise. We had a conference call on Friday that told us to expect another conference call tomorrow that will lay out some of the changes (read downsizing) that will probably happen before the end of the year (happy holidays - here's your pink slip). My company may be acquired (assimilated? absorbed? one of those "a" words) or may be the aquiree. I have 23 years with this firm and that means nothing except that if I am made redundant, I have a fairly good exit package. I can't believe I'm actually having to contemplate using it.

3. Writing. Haven't written a word since I inflicted Time Enough on everyone but as I look at the calendar, I see that we are getting close to the holiday fic season - DIALJ and DTC. I intend to participate in both as well as get out some of those prompts. I've also been playing around with another chapter of Time Enough (which has sort of morphed into its own universe) that would take place after the Earth is towed back into orbit (or whatever that silliness was, I wasn't really paying attention) because I want to see that reunion (you know which one I mean). And my original writing is taking a whole new direction, but more on that later.

4. Vacation! Every year my mom and I take a vacation together - last year it was the Alaska cruise, the year before, it was Chicago. This year we're spending five days in Vegas (it'll be approximately 30 degrees warmer there than it is here). I don't gamble (and really, who can afford to?) so I won't be risking the house on a turn of the roulette wheel. We're seeing Phantom of the Opera (I've seen it, she hasn't) and Mystere and we've planned a day at the spa. (An aside - for what they're charging at the spa, it should come with its own pool boy. Or, in my case, a tea boy.) And we're doing all that shopping and eating and over the top stuff one does in Vegas - at least when visiting with one's mother. Somebody hands me a pool boy/tea boy and Mom is on her own.

That's it for the update. Hang in there, ya'll.
