Ow.

Last night, I cut my finger. Specifically, the pinky finger on my right (dominant) hand (If you want to know how, ask in the comments - it may be kinda squicky). I don't think I've hurt myself this badly since I was a kid - certainly nothing involving So Much Blood ( Read more... )

Yikes. Hope it doesn't get infected. And the pain lessens. Keep it raised if you can.
I sliced my arm open last year on pebble dash as I tried to open the side gate in strong wind. Didn't really notice until I went back in...blood pouring out for quiet a while, my friend put on paper stitches as the plumbers who were in the house...had dirty nails. It happend just as I was supposed to be going out to collect my son. Dr put more stitches on and gave me a tetanus shot that afternoon. I was lucky it wasn't that sore and thankfully I missed damaging my nerves but I have a 5 inch scar now. I was lucky it was on a sharp bit of flint that I must have cut it open on just like a scalpel.

Big "stop bleeding and less pain" hugs to you

ouch - that must've been SHARP! Thank goodness it missed your nerves but still - blood is scary, we're not supposed to leak ;).

Thanks for the hugs!

OW! Soak it in hot hot water and iodine/betadine - that does an amazing job of preventing or knocking back infection.

Hey, I still get quivery about it when I think about what I did! Staying hydrated is a good idea - my friend had to remind me last night (as I was still bleeding through every bandage in seconds) so your advice is a great reminder. However, along with the water, there might be something medicinal ;).

Oh babe, not nice! (And I don't like the idea that you were bleeding through that many bandages over and over - it wasn't clotting?) I hope by the time you wake up (and that you got some sleep) it's feeling better... it sounds as if it was deep though? Or was it one of those sideways slice ones..? Either way - take care, good luck, and your're no more maroon than the rest of us (especially those of us who manage to fall head first downstairs for no good reason... *sighs*) Chin up!

It was a sideways, slicy kind of cut and I think that's why it took so long to clot - there was a lot of surface area :(. I wish I could go back in time and see what I was about to do before I did it, you know? And hey, no more falling down for you, okay? We both need to take care ;).

Ouch! Sounds hideous. Super glue is helpful, also cutting the plasters into strips and using those to seal it. These are tips I learnt when I did the same thing and called my friend who is an A and E nurse for help. She told me they use superglue in A and E (I would check it's non toxic but pretty sure it all is these days. )

Of course I can't relate to the financial thing, but here A and E is famous for waiting, yet you wouldn't wait more than 4 or 5 hours, (barring an unusual situation of some sort) and it's all free! I'm horrified that they would ask for money after 32 hours, that's just cheeky.

Superglue! I'd heard that works, but since I'd have to do it with my left hand, I'd probably end up gluing all my fingers together and probably some other body parts as well *g*. Cutting plasters into strips is brilliant - they never quite fit exactly what the wound looks like, do they?

So right now I'm hoping it's just happy and healing underneath the ointment and bandage and no doctors will be involved :).
