Suspicion...

This is a spoiler regarding 2x17 - I looked back over the entries about this episode and I couldn't see anyone mentioning this, so here are some of my thoughts...

No one has mentioned the significance of Weevil's 'confession'. Perhaps I'm reading a little too much into it, but why would Weevil go to confession? Ok, I know that he is essentially responsible for Thumper's death and perhaps he harbours guilt over this, but this is Veronica Mars we're dealing with here. Nothing is a coincidence.

In episode 2x12, Weevil recruits Veronica to help him figure out who in his gang is dealing with the Fitzpatricks. After bugging the confessional booth, it is discovered that it is in fact Thumper who is dealing drugs with them and he is using his confession time to do the deal.

Now Thumper is dead (we assume) and Weevil goes to confession? It just screams to me that there is something else going on here. We never see the face of the priest (have we ever seen Father Fitzpatrick's face?) so we can't be sure it is who Weevil is speaking with, but I have my suspicions that it is Father Fitzpatrick. I have two ideas as to what this might mean:

1) Weevil got rid of Thumper to get in with the Fitzpatricks and take over his dealing. Weevil wants money (for what? College, a new bike?).

2) Weevil attempts to get in with the Fitzpatricks to bring them down from the inside as revenge for Felix's death.

I think I'm more inclined to go with theory number 2 as I just feel that it makes more sense.

Also, Father Fitzpatrick is mentioned by Woody Goodman in the scene where Logan arrives at his office for intern work. I have no idea if it's relevant but as I said before, can we take anything for granted in this show?

Goodman: "Father Fitzpatrick has blown this way out of proportion".

Anonymous Phone Voice: "What do you intend to do about it?"

Goodman: "More law enforcement for one thing"

I don't know. Is there a Goodman/Fitzpatrick link?

Gah. My brain hurts now :)

So what do you all think?
