There's Got To Be A Morning After Pill... or Not

First of all, I must warn you that I have never attempted to write a review of this show (or any other) before. Why I feel compelled to do it now is probably due to the fact that this episode hit close to home on some level. I am a preacher's daughter. Although I am not a highly religious person and rarely go to church, I was very concerned about ( Read more... )

Hm, I never saw anyone blaming RT/the show for the morning-after-pill mixup.

Ah, blaming the feminists. Too easy. (Forget the fact that without feminists we wouldn't have emergency contraception.) Also, this show's depiction of feminists was plain disgusting. For that I *can* blame the writers.

They blamed the show's writers. Since RT is the show runner and all scripts and stories have to get his final approval, he is ultimately responsible. So they are blaming him.

I'm not "blaming" all feminists. Just the few who decided to judge and rail against the show before watching it. I'm sorry if this offends you.

And if you really think Nish and the gang are meant to be representative of all feminists, you are are missing the point. The real feminists aren't the ones who persecute people because of their own revenge-driven agenda. The real feminist on the show is Veronica because she is more interested in finding the truth and making the real rapist pay.

I know how beneficial the feminist cause has been to our country. Voting rights, birth control, reproductive choice, family leave. We would not have any of these things without feminists fighting for them.

Thinkprogress.org and Women in Media and News were the ones I was referring to. There is also discussion about the episode at feministing.com.

I wasn't defining what real feminists are - just what they aren't. "Hysterical, rape-faking harpies" are not real feminists IMO. I think that's the point the show is trying to make. Do you think what the Lilith House women did was out of concern for the welfare of women? Heck, no. It was for revenge under the guise of feminism. The only ones who took real action to protect women were Veronica, Wallace, Mac, Piz, Parker and the other "Take Back the Night" volunteers who handed out the coasters and whistles.

Agreed. Parker is also a good example for a feminist heroine at the end of the rape arc.

Great review!

It was a good episode. I even liked the relationship drama. I thought it felt quite real and I could emphasize with both their pain, but then I can enjoy teeny soaps, so ...
