Actor Benjamin McKenzie Hosts Red is for Emmy Party for Non-Profit Invisible Children
Date : 15 November 2006 From : 6:00pm
Category : Charity Event

Event Description :

Sponsors Peroni and Yahoo! Food are Helping Put a Fresh Face to the Invisible Children of Africa while Inspiring Hollywood’s Elite

On November 15, 2006, actor Benjamin McKenzie of the hit show “The OC” will host the Red is for Emmy Party at King King in Hollywood. A star-filled night, this event will feature special live performances from The Willowz and Big Japan. Media-based non-profit, Invisible Children, will be premiering their third installment for the Bracelet Campaign - “Emmy: The Story of an Orphan.”

A blend of young Hollywood and loyal donors will be a part of the evening that is divided into two portions. There will be a cocktail portion from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. and the Emmy Premiere Party from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Guests are invited to one or both portions. Attendees include, but are not limited to Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson, Peter Gallagher, Kristen Bell and the cast of “Veronica Mars,” actress Krista Allen (“What About Brian”), MTV producer David Gale (“Jackass Number Two” and “Orange County”), Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and John Paul Dejoria of Paul Mitchell.

Benjamin McKenzie became involved with the non-profit after his producing partner, Bill Thompson, discovered Invisible Children’s documentary page on MySpace. The blend of heartbreaking and empowering media focuses on Northern Uganda’s 20-year war - where children have been abducted from their homes and forced to fight as child soldiers in a violent rebel army - and the inspirational stories of the thousands of youth in America that have responded with action. McKenzie and Thompson were moved to do more than just watch and, together, they began to plan an event that would raise both awareness and money for the young non-profit.

“I was incredibly moved watching the film ‘Invisible Children: Rough Cut,’” said actor Benjamin McKenzie. “It was tremendously touching to see such a dire situation being dealt with face-to-face through the good work of people my own age. I hope this event will draw attention to Uganda’s troubles, and provide Invisible Children with more resources to combat those problems.”

The never-before-seen short film “Emmy: The Story of an Orphan” will premiere the third bracelet in Invisible Children’s Bracelet Campaign. A micro-economic program that is creating jobs in an unemployable war area, the Bracelet Campaign allows Ugandans living in displacement camps to generate a much-needed income. Each of the eight bracelets feature extraordinary stories that highlight one of the many ways Northern Ugandans have been affected by this unrelenting war: Emmy puts a face to the tragedy of AIDS in Africa, making this emergency far more relevant to a culture inundated with faceless statistics. The red bracelet is for Emmy.

“We, at Invisible Children, feel incredibly lucky to have the support of people like Ben McKenzie and Bill Thompson,” said Jason Russell, founder and filmmaker of Invisible Children. “They have helped make this night possible and because of that more people will know about these invisible children and the crisis in Northern Uganda.”

Invisible Children has also created exclusive limited-edition donation packages, including a previously unreleased silver bracelet that will only be sold at the Red is for Emmy party. All proceeds will go to Invisible Children and their efforts both in Northern Uganda and here in the United States.

The event will be sponsored by Peroni Italian beer and Yahoo! Foods new cooking show “Cheap and Easy,” which will create exciting youth-inspired food at the exclusive donor cocktail reception.

The evening is consisting of two important portions both featuring exterior red carpet arrivals. Attendees can attend both portions of the night. Please specify at rsvp@invisiblechildren.com.

Cocktail Reception 6-8 p.m.:
Attendees include celebrities, corporate sponsors, business executives/moguls and established donors. Arrivals start at 6 p.m.

Emmy Premiere Party 9-2 a.m.:
Attendees include celebrities, musicians, fashion moguls, film producers/directors and publishers.
