I'm going as Sarah Palin for Halloween....maybe it'll be cliche over there but I'm hoping not so much here. I noticed she's really tan (for a Wassilan), and reflected sadly that I do not have any bronzer. Did you know she had a tanning bed installed in the Alaskan governor's mansion right after taking office? The things you learn while researching costumes!
Anyone doing anything interesting this year for Halloween? The holiday isn't a very big deal here, which makes me sad. I miss Michigan's fall colors, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, spiced cider and donuts! But hey, you know how in the States Halloween stuff fills the stores the entire month of October and even earlier in some places? (Target already had Halloween stuff on display when I left in early September!) And then after Halloween it's turkeys and cornucopias for a while before the abrupt switch to Christmas. Well here, since Halloween isn't getting the love it deserves, and they don't have Thanksgiving, we are already being treated to CHRISTMAS DISPLAYS IN STORES. This began maybe a month ago. So next time fall rolls around and you curse the early advent of Halloween, think of the poor Germans who have to live through three months of premature yuletide.
