Costa Rica - 5: the complete list of disasters

Jan 06, 2006 17:44

So, the trip is over, and here goes the complete list. As I predicted, some kind of robbery - although very misterious - has eventually happened. Read below.

1. bump on my head (the one which was there for years) got infected - so they had to cut it off right the day before the trip.
2. flat tire - found out right in the morning when we had to leave one middle of nowhere for another one, so we felt behind the schedule for at least an hour.
3. broken clutch - in the middle of nowhere, on the way from one moddle of nowhere to another, in mountains, on an unpaved rural road, when it´s rainy and way too muddy outside; was finally repaired, but put us an hour more behind the schedule, half of which we spent trying to find how to open the hood (the handle was in the gloves compartment!!).
4. my digital camera screen - got fractured at some point during the canopy tour. tarzan swing rules, but taking pictures without screen and not being able to even change camera options sucks. have to go back to the old camera - luckily have it with me, together with 5 packs of super-colorful film.
5. broken suspension rod - found out right in the morning when we had to leave this middle of nowhere in mountains for a nicer place on a beach, so we got stucked in this fuckin´ middle of nowehere for at least another night. it took them 6 hour to deliver a new vichile, which sounded strange but at least was moving straight.
6. iguana park - closed 3 years ago although still mentioned in the 2005 edition of the lonely planet guide. found out after 14 km of (already usual) off-road driving and searching for (still existing!) arrows
7. favorite sunglasses - lost. found out when on the beach.
8. very tasty cheese "monteverde" bought at the cheese factory - left in the fridge in a hostel. found out at the next hotel, ~400km away.
9. spare sunglasses - lost. found out at the airport.
10. $20 - mysteriosly disappeared while i was paying $13 for taxi. found out when the taxi has left. was the taxi driver guddiny's brother?
11. tomato juce - spilled over my knees, while sitting in the window seat on the airplane. my fault of course.

so, 11 days of travel - 11 disasters. and what is the conclusion? never ever travel with goga. it's his bad luck, i'm sure! ;)
