WOW! Haven't updated in a really long time. Oops! Oh well, I have a really good excuse because school has been really crazy! It always gets really crazy around December because of the ever impending final exams and projects! Fun, fun, I know! Anyways, a rundown of all the things I've been doing the past couple o' days:
Furiously working on my Physics egg launch project, which included :constructing a container that would be launched from the roof of the school on to the pavement below while craddling a precious egg within and hoping that it comes out safe and sound and writing a Concepts paper on all the components of Physics that went into the construction and launching of the egg. By the way, we had the launch yesterday and my egg was the only egg that managed to hit the opposite roof and get stuck in the gutter, so Mr. Bird, my Physics teacher walked over to the section of roof that it was on and kindly hurdled it onto the pavement below. Needless to say, the egg did not survive! Oh well!
2nd, I've been working for about a week and a half now on preparing for a Spanish Presentation that is part of my final grade. It has to be an 8-10 minute presentation about an aspect of Spanish culture. woo hoo! fun, fun! NOT! Anyways, it's coming along nicer than I expected and I'm hoping that I will be prepared enough to present on Monday so I can stop worrying about it. Oh, by the way, my presentation is on "La Quinceanera", a HUGE celebration for a girl who turns 15. It's sort of like a "coming out party" or a "sweet sixteen", where the girl is eligible to be courted.
Next, I've been working all week on the story part of my Journalism Final. We have to write a 400-800 word story and design a 4 page spread, and the final product should be like a mini magazine. So the title of my story is "Life of the Simple Hearted". Surprise, surprise, I know! But I really think it's going to be interesting. My good friend Charlotte from Purdue did an interview with her mom, who grew up Mennonite, which is similar to Amish, about her childhood and what it was like to grow up without a lot of modern conveniences. She also commented on what simplicity meant to her. I think it's going to turn out to be a really good story, but it sure has been a pain in the rear!
And the last, and probably the most daunting homework of this week: reading an average of 40 pages a night in "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". Now, don't get me wrong, it's a really good book and I'm a pretty good reader, but the fact is that almost half of the dialogue is Jim, the runaway slave that befriends Huck, speaking in a very thick southern accent. Yeah, that takes a while to read and truly understand what he's saying. But anyways, we're supposed to be finishing the book before finals, because our English final is only over Huckleberry Finn, so that should be good times reading!
Oh, I know I said the last one was the last, but I thought of another. On a serious note, my grandmother has been in the hospital for 7 weeks, and frankly, she's not doing all that well. We've been going up to Muncie about 2 times a week, and I'm glad we are, because I want to see my grandmother as much as possible and try and help her get healthy and strong, but having to worry constantly about whether or not you are going to be told that you grandmother just died and now your going to have to start planning a funeral, is no fun at all. It's also really hard to worry about things like school, when quite literally, I'm dealing with life and death issues. It really puts things into perspective. It's also been really hard on my mom. She's trying to take off as many days as she can from work to be able to be with her mom, and my uncles are trying to help as best as they can, but my Uncle Jon lives in Florida and was only able to come up for about a week over Thanksgiving and probably won't be able to come home for Christmas, and my other Uncle Chris comes to the hospital when my mom can't be there, but he also has to work, and so it's hard on him as well. But all I know is that the situation needs a lot of prayer and I would sincerely ask you all to try and remember my grandmother and my family in prayer, because we all need it. I'm just trying to remember and realize that Christ never said that we would be without troubles or trials, and that through rough situations, that is when He draws us closer to him and also closer to others. I got to talk with my older brother, Alex, when he was home for break, and we talked for probably close to 2 hours about the situation with my grandma, and it was encouraging to see him stepping up into an older brother role more and more.
So anyways, that's just been MY CRAZY LIFE the past couple of weeks or so. I hope this hasn't been too boring, but it felt good to get those things off my chest and think through them. I sincerely hope that all of your weeks have been going well and I hope you have a blessed Christmas and really take time to enjoy your families and friends and treasure the time you have to spend with them.
¡Feliz Navidad!
