I was in the Air Force for 8 years and loved it. If he's going in enlisted, the nice thing about the Air Force is that it's the officer's that get shot at. ;)

Oh Boy - Wayne Dyer. I've read him a lot, worse yet, my husband has read him a lot. I'm a little skeptical of his earlier work, it all seemed a bit antisocial to me. Then again, I rarely make a habit of walking around with "victim" on my forehead, so perhaps those earlier techniques would have been overkill for my frame of mind. That quote - though - is very true. Sometimes knowing and understanding the power of intention, though, is like carrying around a loaded gun, it was perfectly safe in your hands when you picked it up, but carrying a loaded gun around CHANGES the carrier.

Don't mind me, premenstrual. ;)

Anyway - UK authors - Terry Pratchett (who would probably agree with me on the changed carrier theory). That series by Mary Stewart (as I recall) was historic/fantasy, right? (Read it many, many years ago.) If you like fantasy, definitely Terry Pratchett.

Yup - it was fun. I was an aircrew scheduler - and yes, all that that implies (snigger).

I do think Dyer's writing has changed somewhat, or maybe it's me thats changed. He has some interesting ideas and a lot of them make sense. I can see what your getting at with the loaded gun theory. I think your right, intention changes us so we do have to be careful where we're directing it. You know the old saying, "be careful what you wish for."

Thanks for the tip on Terry Pratchett, I'll check him/her out. You remembered right, the Mary Stewart trilogy is about Arthurian legend, told by Merlin.

Forgot to ask, did you travel a lot in the Air Force? That's something that Nick has talked about wanting to do. You must have really enjoyed it if you were in for 8 years.

Ironically enough - no. I stayed at the same base for the whole 8 years, even more ironically in the state I grew up in as a small child. So, I never got to "see the world". Actually, I didn't have a problem with that.

I did enjoy it - it was a blast. I was in a flying unit, and those are notoriously more interesting than some other area of work.

There is LOTs of travel available. If he doesn't have a problem with flying, perhaps a job oncraft would work for him. There are several enlisted positions available, including flight engineer, load master, etc. and the mechanical positions travel (crew chiefs) travel a lot too. My stepson is a crew chief. I definitely recommend the on-craft positions though. Lots of travel and flight pay, etc.
