[for jack] - time for a chat

The secretary isn't entirely certain how the strange man managed to get past security and up to the executive floors. He certainly didn't look like he belonged, not with those scruffy jeans and that dark t-shirt. Nor with those sunglasses or mussed hair. But she also found that when he leaned over her desk and smiled, it somehow seemed more prudent ( Read more... )

Jack looked up from his computer with a bit of surprise, then annoyance. He was busy and had asked not to be disturbed. So why was there a man, an oddly familiar man, standing across his desk from him.

Leaning back in his chair, Jack frowned and turned to face the stranger. "Excuse me, but who are you?"

Set smiled in a oh isn't the little executive-boy cute sort of way. He rested his hands on Jack's desk and leaned over it, still smiling. "You don't know me. It's okay, though a part of me beat the shit out of you, once."

"I'm not here for you, precisely, Jack Donovan."

"Excuse me?" Jack gave the man a very unhappy look, before he stood up and eyed the man. "Look, I don't know what you want here? But I think it is time to leave."

"You haven't even heard what I want," Seteh sounded almost reasonable.

"It's a very small thing. Just a conversation. Only, I'd much rather be speaking to Hermes."

"Get out." Jack snapped, his tension growing as he squeezed his hands into fist. It had been years since anyone had wanted to call him by that. "You are looking for someone else. I'm not 'Hermes'."

His name was Jack. Jack Donovan. No one could have questioned that.

Seteh laughed, it wasn't a nice sound. "You may not be, but he's in you, there. Maybe sleeping, but I'm far too impatient to wait for him to decide to awaken in his own good time."

The room around them seemed to grown dimmer, the sky outside clouding, and electricity crackling on the air.

Jack scowled, reaching out for his office phone. "Leave, or I'm calling security."

There was no way in hell he was playing this game again.

There was that smile again, full of teeth and a dark glee. "You can try." The phone, he would find, was dead. The door locked.

And the almost palpable sensation, the pressure of power in the room continued to grow.

"Hermes," he said in a sing-song that really wasn't fitting for a man of his apparent age, or his real age for that matter, "come out, come out wherever you are."

Seteh really could stay here all day.

Jack slammed his phone down and jogged over to the door to try at it vainly. He clearly wasn't amused. Tugging at the door he ignored Seteh for as long as he could, before spinning around and glaring at the man.

"Who are you and what do you want?"

//My name// he intoned, clearly enjoying this //is Seteh. We know each other of old, you and I, Hermes.//

Yes, he did intend on keeping this up until the old bastard finally roused. And the only reason he was restraining himself from physical persuasion was wanting to start off on something resembling the right foot with Hermes. Since he had something he wanted from the Greek, and all.

"Get out." Jack hissed again, moving up to put a finger in Set's chest. "Just get out. I don't have what you want."

He growled, anger in his voice.

Of course, if Jack were going to get physical first...

Set grabbed Jack's hand in his, deceptively casual, but whatever he did to Jack's fingers hurt, near to breaking them.

"I think you're under a misapprension..." //You are not in control here.//

Ow. Ow. That hurt. Jack didn't know what it was about this man...

Ask what he wants. A thought said in a familiar voice he hadn't heard in years.

"What do you want?"

"I want Hermes." Set cocked his head to the side, but didn't let go of Jack. "He has something of value."

Well, knowledge where that something was. Same difference.

//Don't we all.// Jack's eyes seemed to change, as he stood just a bit taller and pulled his hand free.

//But why should we give it to you?// Whatever 'it' was.

Seth smiled. Took him long enough.

//I'm sure you don't really want to spend any more time in that body, do you?// he asked.

And Set himself was standing there, living proof that what he offered was real.
