Been to see Inception for the second time today. Man. This is the kind of films that make the most (the only, actually) impression when experienced for the first time. I can't forget the powerful emotion from the first Friday's show. I was quite wary of seeing it again, for you know that sometimes it is best to keep the first impression and a memory of something untouched, than to later be disappointed by another, not-so-magical view on it. Well, anyway, I went also because of sheer curiosity of what was all this thing about. And I think I know now :3 Being able to observe everything again - I even noticed little lacks of acting ability, but that is unimportant - it all made sense. So I sacrificed the precious memory of long-gone positive (yes) emotion that can shake your body with its power for knowledge. A fair trade. I think.
Also, Inception's Mombasa became something similar to Day Watch's Burkina Faso. Can you believe that it's 24°C in tropical Mombasa now? It was 30° few days ago here. And it's 38° every day in Moscow, just like in Cairo. Yes I love meteorology, weather and maps ❤ Actually, I just learned that Mombasa is located a little below the equator and that is does affect the climate, meaning this part of Kenya shares the seasons of the southern hemisphere. Cool.
It's kind of a joke for me that those meaningful, cool places from fiction world are located in Africa, because that is the continent I am not very interested in. Hot, sunny, hot, insected, hot, sultry, hot. I realise that also beautiful - and man, I do love documentary programs about animals, but the atmosphere - I'm getting accustomed to it, slowly, but still. Not my pair of socks.
I could work at cinema. Smell of popcorn and nerve-breaking crunchy nachos reminds me of good, carefree days in Wrocław when I was all on my own, just me and the big cinema with industrial layout, me and the beautiful city, me and the trams, me and solitary walks in the park. I'm doing amazing job remembering only good things from that utopic time.
When I think Mombasa I keep hearing Hermione shouting "Bombarda!".
Here is my theory on Inception [spoilers]:
The first scene we see is the same we see at the end, merely continued. Dom pauses over his bowl of food, remembering what and who she is, the same thing happens to Saito. Then the real-time action kicks in. Yes, I'm all for the idea that the action is not an elaborate illusion of Dom's dream, but real reality. Think - the dream could never have been so intricate to create so many platforms of action, in many different places in the world. And every person in the team had their own, complicated personality. Obsession with Mal's totem is just obsession, the flourished idea born from the world of madness and severe shock and pain because of his wife's death. But all is still real. Cob's nerves are just strained. Also, Mal never appeared in the reality, that rules out possibility it's just a dream. She herself is not a real person, obviously, but personified guilt and feelings of Cob. To kill her meant for him to let go of her... Because they already had their time together. And they wasted it on life-long illusion. Part of Cob wanted to die also, person of Mal being the personal executioner that was disturbing their missions. As for the children - at the very end, we see them wearing exactly the same clothes as they were throughout entire movie, so it could just mean Cob is in a dream and was able to change his memory of the kids, but I believe it's Nolan's trick, to give our brains some food. The totem also looked like it was about to fall over [it was spinning roughly the same time span as when Cob made a reality check with it, ready to shoot himself in the head were it indeed a dream. Limbo - we know from Cob's and Mal's personal experience that it's possible to return to life without having scrambled eggs instead of a brain, so I believe it is logical and possible for both Cob and Saito to wake up on the plane as if after a regular dream. I think Saito might have survived the limbo also because of his Japanese-Zen-Buddhist-brain-hygenic education and culture. Yup.
Sometimes the process discovering a mystery is more exciting than knowing the behind the scenes of it.
