Christmas Carol Concert and Cat in the Closet

Dec 16, 2008 23:55

After trimming the tree, and making a dash to the store for a few things, I went to a couple of events tonight: first, the annual Memphis-area Human Resources "holiday" social, held at the U of M Holiday Inn. I went at the beginning of the evening, hooked up with an old friend in the buffet line, and we spent the better part of an hour chatting about various and sundry. The food was really tasty--chicken quesadillas, spring rolls, cheeses and crackers, pastries, and cash bar (one drink came with the registration fee). I had a glass of white wine--my friend was amazed at the size of my glass, since his was rather small compared to mine. Maybe I looked like I could use a drink. ;)

Anyway, after this, I went with another couple of friends to hear a Christmas carol concert at a church in midtown Memphis; beforehand, we went to one of their houses for wine and nibbles, and the hostess and I swapped our Christmas gifts, since she's heading home (Maine) for the holidays this weekend.

So. . .you ask, where's the titular cat? Because this was a semi-dressy party, I broke out my black heels, which were in the bedroom closet. As I got ready for bed (where I'm heading when this novel is over), I looked and looked for Nutmeg--and couldn't find her anywhere. I heard a cat crying, but checked behind every door, under the couch, the bed, in the bathroom, and no Nutmeg. I even went outside in my pjs (and that, my friends, is love when it's as cold as it is here tonight). Finally, in my bedroom, I took a hunch and opened the closet--sure enough, out ran Nutmeg. Oops--guess she ran in when I got my shoes out (at around 5:15 this afternoon). Sorry, Nutmeg.
