Cooking and Baking and Games

This evening, we had our monthly Flexible Friday Fun Fellowship at the church where I used to go (actually, this church is the result of a merger between my "old" congregation and another one, both of which had fallen on hard times in terms of attendance and finances); anyway, there are still some folks there that I'm close to, and I participate in a women's monthly study group, a weekly Bible study and other activities that I can fit in to my schedule.

The "theme" for tonight's meal was Winter Comfort Foods, so I made macaroni and cheese, boiling the noodles and adding the cheese sauce, then topping 1/2 of the noodles with with a layer of 1/2 cup cubed sharp cheddar and 1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar, repeating those layers, and topping the whole thing with a mixture of milk, pepper and an egg.

I also made an apple pie from scratch, which was yummy; I should have gotten ambitious and gotten some vanilla ice cream to go with it, but I didn't.

We played games tonight: Apples to Apples, and another game where you try to make your teammates guess pairs of rhyming words by drawing, acting them out and giving verbal clues. After a slow start (*you* try drawing something to make somebody guess twirl, especially on a full stomach), we won that one by 1 point.

Apples to Apples is just the opposite--a no-think game, great for winding down with.

Tomorrow another couple of friends are coming over for lunch (I'm cooking a chicken breast dish with rice and cheese, having rolls and something for dessert--I have a little pie left, but I don't think it's enough for 3) and we're swapping Christmas gifts. Then tomorrow night it's a birthday dinner for my piano teacher, so I'm taking a chocolate syrup cake to that.

I need to be in bed, because I need to get my rear end up early tomorrow and make that cake and chicken dish.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!
