Some Easter Thoughts

Apr 06, 2007 16:47

Once again, as has been my tradition for the past 4 Easters, I'll be eating with my godchildren and their parents for Easter Sunday dinner. My contribution is the ham, glazed with brown sugar and honey, rolls, green bean casserole, and wine; Sam, my 13 year old godson, likes to make desserts, so that's his responsibility, while their mom will make the potatoes (Aaron, the 16 year old, may help out with that). Max, who is 10, usually gets detailed to set the table.

This evening, I'm going to the Good Friday service at my church, and then home to rest; I may watch the movie "Jesus Christ Superstar". My EFM group watched "The Passion of the Christ" Monday evening--this is the third time I've seen it, and it may be the last. I saw it the first time with a group of friends from my old church, then last year with Cindy, my godkids' mom, who had never seen it, and then this past week. While it is an emotionally powerful film in many respects, the flogging scene has really begun to feel excessive to me.

Then tomorrow I'll start the day baking my three coffeecakes for the choir Easter brunch I'm in charge of (one is a blueberry streusel, one's a honeybun cake and the other one is a cinnamon cake); after that's done, it's off to breakfast somewhere and then to take flowers to the cemetery. It's been 11 years this past Wednesday that my dad's been dead--the year he died, it was actually Maundy Thursday, so this time of year is always extra emotional for me. Then this coming Wednesday would have been Darrell's 53rd birthday.

After that, it's time to make the green bean casserole and dye Easter eggs. :)))

And I'm on vacation from work next week--so here's to completing my school paper and writing journal, and having "me time"!

easter, food, good friday, family
