Dreamwidth, part 2

So, after my shameless post begging for a Dreamwidth invite yesterday, I woke up this morning to an email with a Dreamwidth invite, because I was chosen at random from all the people who created and validated an OpenID account over there. So, yay, I have a Dreamwidth account now, too ( Read more... )

Well, I've been going back and forth on this subject a bit, because of the current difficulty with importing comments on cross-posted posts from LJ to DW. I like the idea of having all my comments in one place, and I really don't want to lock comments anywhere... But if it's better for you if I cross-post everything, then I will cross-post everything. DW is promising to make it much easier to cross-post really soon, and it's not like it's that hard to copy and paste everything in the meantime.

To be honest, it's much easier for me to imagine some things that I would want to post only in DW (like any trouble I have with setting up my DW account, or discussion of any of DW's new features, since I imagine that people of LJ wouldn't be that interested in any of that) than it is to imagine things that I would post only in LJ.

But wow, I hadn't expected to find an actual clear advantage to using Dreamwidth so soon, given that it's not even in open beta yet. I know that one of DW's goals is to try and be more friendly and compatible with other blogging services, so it doesn't surprise me that their RSS feed works better. I just expected it to take longer for their improvements to really make a difference. :)
