Question for the Doctor Who fandom

Jun 27, 2007 09:47

OK, I've got to ask. *What* is up with everybody suddenly posting major spoilers for recently aired Doctor Who episodes without putting them behind text cuts? Why is it that it looks like *everybody* who watches Doctor Who has suddenly decided that if an episode has aired in the UK, it is fair game to talk about major developments (like appearances ( Read more... )

started taping eps with the intention of watching them, fell further and further behind, and eventually ended up not bothering to tape the second half of the season

Yeah, I stopped watching in the middle of the last season of Doctor Who -- it just wasn't as engaging as it used to be. But people were so enthusiastic about this latest season that I got all the episodes and started watching again. I haven't gotten to the episodes everybody is currently raving about, but judging by other people's reactions, I probably should. *g*

Life on Mars! Woot! *is currently enjoying muchly*

Life on Mars! Yay! I still haven't watched all of the second season -- I have all the episodes, I just... got distracted, I guess. (I am easily distractible ;) ) But I really enjoyed the first season! Did you know they are planning to make an American version of it? I shudder to think what they will come up with...

Your icon has reminded me: are you familiar with Bart's recent canon?

Hee! I used that icon just for you! (It's been a while since I've used any of my Bart icons. *g*) And no, I know nothing about canon for Bart pretty much since he stopped being Impulse and became Kid Flash. The few glimpses I've gotten didn't feel like *Bart* to me, so I decided to pretty much ignore it. I did look a little bit at the new Flash title, but again, Bart didn't feel like *Bart*, so I dropped it. Why? Did some new major thing happen?

I don't know. I'm pretty happy keeping Bart as the Impulse I remember and ignoring new canon altogether. *g*

I must admit that I prefer Nine over Ten, but then again, I haven't seen much of Ten. And I also have a tendency to stubbornly cling to earlier canon. *g* (Earlier, of course, being rather relative in this case.)

Well, we're still early in the first season here, so when we get to the second season, I will flail about it until you go back and watch it. *g*

*facepalm*

Christ, why can't anyone just leave well enough alone, these days? Everything is an adaptation or remake. One of the reasons why I love LoM is precisely because it's original.

Re: Bart: major spoilers for the most recent issue of Flash are here. However, given what you've said about ignoring new canon (a very wise move), you'd be best off not clicking. :/

This, of course, is where someone tells me that it's actually based off something else. *g*

I personally don't know of any other series or book like LoM, but you know there are only 7 original plots in the world, right? ;)

My fear for an American LoM remake is that they will make the 70s too... flashy and formulaic, the way the 70s are usually portrayed in movies in the US. One of the reasons I like LoM is that it somehow managed to escape that trap, and portray the London of the 70s in all its ambiguous glory. I have very little faith that an American remake would be able to pull off the same thing without sinking into annoying stereotypes. *sigh* I guess we'll see.

And I did click that link, because I have no willpower. *sighs again* Yeah. I think I'll stick to imagining Bart as the Impulse I first grew to love, and ignore everything after that. I mean, come on! *boggles*

I'm... pretty glad I'm not actually in the DC fandom, and only occasionally look in on it to see what else they can mess up beyond all recognition.

Heh, yeah. *g*

Same here -- I didn't even find out about this until well after it happened. The mainstream DCverse is pretty much dead to me, at the moment. I'm not even going to consider touching it with a ten-foot pole until they bring in a new editorial team... and even then, it'll take something special. (There's a Booster Gold solo series coming up, but damnit, I am not going to buy it. *stands firm, damnit*)

DC, feh.

Booster Gold is still alive?! I thought they'd killed off everybody out of that old gang.

Yeah, it's probably not a good idea for you to read that. If Bart as the Flash can lead to... *that*, then you know where a Booster Gold solo series is going to end up, right?

Meh. They might as well kill *everybody* off and start off completely fresh.

Yeah, he took a nuclear blast to the face. But he was also Supernova (which fandom called from day one, heh), and... you know, I can't actually remember how it all worked out, in the end. But then I think Ralph ended up dying, and then Question died of Random Cancer, or something, and I just... feh. I've gone beyond being pissed off, and simply don't care.

The only thing about the Booster series is that it has oldschool Booster creative types working on it, and, from all appearances, will have a lot of continuity shout-outs to his original solo series. Still, I don't want to support it.

Actually, the new Blue Beetle series is pretty good, from all accounts. And I like what I've seen of the new Beetle, and I hate it when people won't give a new character a chance, just because they miss their predecessor. I like Jaime, I really do, and in any other circumstances, I'd be willing to give his title a shot.

But, given the way the totally messed-up way in which the writers both killed Ted and destroyed his character, I just can't bring myself to buy New Beetle. It's nothing against Jaime; it's all about not wanting to make DC think I approve of their misguided (to put it politely) actions. If they'd handled Ted's demise better (or just had him retire), I would totally buy it. :/
