Sweden, here I come!

Everybody keeps giving me weird looks, when I tell them that I'm going to Sweden. I can just *see* people trying to figure out exactly where Sweden is, and why I'd want to go *there*, instead of some other European country. I've never gotten such a reaction for any other other country I've visited so far. It's beginning to make me feel a little bad for poor Sweden. It's not *its* fault that it's not Norway, or Iceland, or Denmark, is it? I'm sure there are *lots* of interesting things in Sweden that make it 100 times cooler than any other country out there! I just... can't think of any at the moment. Heh. (Except that it's the country that brought us the wonderful Astrid Lingdren children's books, like Pippi Longstocking, and poor, maligned Karlson who lived on the Roof, whom *nobody* in the US seems to have heard of (Wow. $99 for a used copy of that book?! Seriously?!), but whom I used to *love* as a child in Russia. And Sweden is the country that The Wonderful Adventures of Nils described with such love. How can you go wrong with that? :) )

(And yes, I know that this reaction is all based completely on ignorance. That's rather the point, isn't it. I'm looking forward to rectifying that, at least in my case.)

Mostly, though, I'm going there because that's where my Dad is at the moment, and we've decided that right now would be a good time to go on our Annual Family Trip (tm). It feels a little random, really -- a little bit like Wheel of Fortune -- we just chose the dates for the trip, and see where the wheel my Dad would be at that point, and knew that that was where we were going. There's something... backwards about that, but hey, whatever works, right? And besides, it's almost more exciting to go to a country that I know so little about. I'm sure I'll come back filled to the brink with cool new historical facts.

It would be just my luck to leave on the exact day when so many people on my friends list are going to watch Serenity, too. I really wanted to see people's reactions to the movie, but I don't know if I'll have access to the computer, so I guess I'll just have to try and catch up when I come back... I hope you all have as great a time tonight as I did when I went to see it. :)

Also, this has nothing to do with anything else I've written so far,but I thought I would mention it, anyway, because I've been arguing discussing this with kernezelda, and now I can't stop thinking about it. *g*

I think Lena Olin would be a kick-ass Cordelia Naismith! In fact, Cordelia has been Lena Olin in my mind, ever since someone suggested her, in a comment on one of shaye's posts. And Aral Vorkosigan has been Victor Garber. :) Wouldn't that be *perfect*? I don't even watch Alias, and even I feel the chemistry between them, just from the icons online.

kernezelda tells me that Cordeila is actually supposed to be blonde (or rather, "chestnut-haired"), and taller than Lena Olin, but I don't remember it ever saying that in the text. And anyway, it doesn't matter, because Lena Olin would still be a perfect Cordelia. So there. *nods decisively*

I don't know who would play Miles, though...

*hugs everybody* See you all in a week and a half!

ETA: Happy early birthdays to fbf and trajictale, since I won't have access to a computer on your actual birthdays. And happy very, very late birthdays to kerlin and apathocles, and everybody else whose birthday I've missed, because I suck. *hugs to you all*
