Need baby shower advice quick

There is a baby shower at work for a guy I have never met. Our firm is split betweem Chicago and Dallas, and he works in Dallas. I am in department A and he is in department B. In general, A and B work together a lot and are closely related in the firm taxonomy. We are almost two aspects of the same department. In Chicago, we are physically located together. The people in department B in Chicago work with and speak to this fellow a lot. I have never spoken to him in the phone.

So I feel awkward going to his shower (which you may have surmised is happening in Chicago for some reason). I am happy for him in a vague way.

So, what are my obligations? Do I contribute to the gift, sign the card, and attend the shower?
