Running

[I'm trying to remind myself that I'm not actually hungry, just bored. There's just only so much passive stochastic calculus one can take.]

I went running yesterday for the first time in at least three weeks. I received no snarky comments about slowing down. As it was, I was NOT pushing the pace. Just running for 3 miles in a modest 30 minutes was plenty enough shock to the old bones. I've been hitting the elliptical machine regularly (gaining weight as a result) so the running wasn't so bad DURING, but the rest of the day many body parts complained. I also did an assortment of strengthening exercises afterwards, including the bands that I hung up in the garage.

I have looked at sunrise/set tables and see that there is no possibility for non-weekend running until early March. I am thinking this year about trying a very slow but very consistent program of running almost every other day, more slowly and for less distance than I am able, so see if such conservative base building will stave off the over-use injuries. Anyway, once a week does not count as consistent, so the project will have to wait. It's just as well, as one can't count much on ice-free streets right now. This isn't stopping dozens of people in my neighborhood from going out there to run. I wonder how often they fall on their heads.
