"Say nothing of that. Who should suffer but myself? It has been my own doing, and I ought to feel it."

"You must not be too severe upon yourself," replied Elizabeth.

"You may well warn me against such an evil. Human nature is
so prone to fall into it! No, Lizzy, let me once in my life
feel how much I have been to blame. I am not afraid of being
overpowered by the impression. It will pass away soon enough."

Erm... It's not mine, BTW. (I've heard it so often I kind of forget that it's not actually well-known outside my culture.)

:-)

I didn't mean to imply that I thought it was; it sounded like a traditional story. (I can't claim any expertise in your culture, but I used to read Sholom Aleichem and Leo Rosten when I was growing up - my parents had an eclectic bookshelf.) I did think that it was very apt and well-chosen, not necessarily that it applied to the situation at hand because I still approve of what you said, but in that it expressed how you feel about it, and in that it contained a really apropos comparison of words to feathers that fly away and can't be recaptured.

Oh, dear.

I really hope this isn't even partly a reaction to my meta post, because it was certainly not intended to salt your wounds. Plus, I don't think defending yourself against unfair public slandering was really the wrong thing to do.

Not at all. I wanted to make this post this morning, but I didn't have time. I don't think I was wrong to defend myself, but I'm not satisfied with the way I did it.

I have a piece of Caingerbread left over from the emergency kit I opened the other day if you'd like to have it...

Ah. I see. *hugs* I've heard the story before, but I don't think I'd taken it to heart. But yes, these things have meaning.
