Quite sleepy.

It is going to be so cold tomorrow morning...single digits with the wind chill. This is totally atypical for the south at this time of year. In January, maybe. Below freezing temps before Christmas? GASP AND MOAN.
It wouldn't matter to me at all except that I have to open at work again, which means getting up at 7:15-ish, which is an outrageous time to wake up, in my opinion. I'll be very happy to go back to my regular schedule after this week, although the extra money will certainly be nice.
Orientation at the Humane Society went well...there were a ton of people there but the majority were under 18...the only job they can do is puppy/kitten/cat room maintenance (cleaning up poopy newspaper, making sure the animals have water, etc.) A job I wouldn't mind doing in the daytime while the kiddies are in school. I can also be a dog walker, if I stick to smaller and more obedient dogs. I couldn't walk Jaroby because he weighs as much as I do and has absolutely no leash training (because Raun is in doggie obedience denial. This is something we must work on when we're living together again).
Raun has Jaroby and I have Saffron...though I adopted Myrrhmur while we were living together, she was still more "my cat" than "our cat." Of course Raun loved Myrrhmur because she was irresistible, but he doesn't have the fervent cat addiction that I do. I really want us to get a pet together, that will be ours, not his or mine. That we take care of together (although, while Raun never once scooped the catbox or gave my cats food/water, I often let Jaroby out, gave him food/water when needed, etc. Hmmmm). Anyway, I was thinking that a good compromise between a dog lover and a cat lover would be...a small dog. I tend to get along with small dogs better than big dogs, for several reasons...I'm a small person, so while a big dog could easily overpower me, I can handle a small dog with no problem. Small dogs are easier to bathe and don't seem to stink as much as big dogs anyway. Small dogs can be held and cuddled in a similar manner to cats. I'm not dissing big dogs, just stating my personal preferences.
Right now I have a bit of a fixation on miniature dachshunds, after meeting a puppy a couple months ago - severe levels of cuteness. Whether that's the breed we go with or not, I definitely want to strive for a dog that's under 20 lbs, since it will be a primarily indoor dog, at least where we'll be living when I arrive in Chicago. Don't worry, we will definitely adopt a shelter/rescue dog, not a dog from a breeder/possible puppy mill!
Now I just have to resist the urge to adopt another cat before I move out there. It's going to be very tough.
I also have to assuage my hatred of yappy, neurotic dogs. I will not adopt a dog without a thorough "background check." Barking when strangers approach the house, etc. is one thing. Jaroby is a great watchdog, but he shuts up as soon as he realizes that there is no danger. Dogs who are yappy and neurotic and never shut up can go to doggie hell, thanks.
