When I think back on Macalester, there is often a place in my chest that aches, physically. Most of why I desperately want to go back is the people, but they are scattered to the four winds; even at my wedding, we won't manage to gather them all back to us. I'm desperately glad for the internet, and the contact that it brings me, but this text on the page is only a pale substitute for the people I love.

Congrats on the running, though! Yeah, I scoffed at the $150 cook's clogs until I discovered that they were the only thing that kept my ankles from hurting. And I scoffed at the $200 bike shoes that clip into the pedals until I discovered how much faster I can go in them. Zoom! There are definitely cases where those pricey ridiculous things at REI are actually worth the stupid amounts of money you spend on them.
Also, I have discovered that biking is less expensive than car commuting, but not by as much as you might think. Still, much more fun. Again, I say, zoom!
