just got back frm AHM 2009. i am mad tired but i have already thought of this blog entry wayyyy before the run, so i just have to blog it before it goes out of my head.
i found the run to be great overall.. it was my first time running at 5.30am and the night air was cool and gd! wanted to take nightrider, but i didnt know the last bus at my house was at 4.02am. i reached the bus stop at 4.30am.. so chiong-ed cab down instead.. the cab driver was nice enough to drive me real close to the race starting point despite the road closure! :). its great to meet nice cab drivers!
the race route outlined east coast park so i had a splendid view of the coast & the sunrise which made everything more bearable. even tho most ppl will disagree, i really love AHM, and i can foresee myself taking part in it on a yearly basis (even though every single year before the race i will think to myself that i must be mad to join). it was great cos there were ample water points (ard 1 every 2 km), cultural performances, efficient baggage collection n its relatively cheap considering that its a no-frills run. the only downside abt it is the tremendous amount of army boys ard!
my AHM 09 tag. look at the bottom left corner, its the new timing chip this year that serves for a one-time use. its super cute!
timing chip! love it, compared to the ugly black championchip that they usually give.
carebears go for AHM too! =) love!
anw i had a great time this year, breezed thru the 1st 15km.. and i even felt like i could go faster. this year i was smarter cos i brought my own deep heat along with me and applied every 6km or so.. but at 18km i had a bad stitch due to bad breathing n it really broke my momentum. :(. ended up walking for a couple 100m.. and at the final 2km i got lost and ran into the 6km route instead. all the ppl there were WALKING and i had to push my way thru to get out of the maze of ppl. :(. so sorry to all those whom i shoved w my sweaty palms. :(. in the end i finished at 2hr 30+ min.. duno what time exactly cos my watch is super unreliable. well i am happy enough with the time. :).
and this is the last time i will be running with my asics which has served me well since august 2007. i'm so horrible to wear the same pair of shoes for such a long time, but i really love it! i love it more than my NBs even tho it's bought on sale n v much cheaper.
my asics shoes.. looking worn out after going thru 21k this morning..
list of events it has brought me through
- Great Eastern Women 10k 2007
- Shape run 2008
- PwC Cup qualifying race
- PwC Cup (3 day race ard BJ)
- Shape run 2009
- AHM 2009
it deserves a gooooood rest. i'm thinking of getting another asics, i'm disillusioned with NBs as it is so heavy and big! but mizuno looks good as well. hmmmm what to get what to get??
4 months more to my 1st 42k! i'm terrrrfied!
