so what happened since the last update?
I survived all 3 christmas celebrations unscathed. I'm a tiny little bit disappointed that I only got one book and a cookbook at that.
I spent new years eve on a boat on the danube with my friend nina drinking champaign and watching the fireworks over vienna from the deck. pictures are at flickr, only for friends, though - I'm paranoid and unfotogenic.
I celebrated my birthday last Saturday with a couple of friends drinking strawberry daiquiries. Got lots of different sorts of tea for my birthday (only one book!). I'm sipping "Träum schön" tea (dream well) right now.
The library opened again on the 9th. It was closed for more than 3 weeks because of the damage done by the soot and heat from the arson. You can still smell the smoke faintly over the smell of cleaning agent. It's strange but I found the week were I had little to do & worked only short hours but didn't have access to my workplace and desk a lot more stressful than now. I spent most of the week stacking shelves with the hundreds of books which are coming back from the ozone chamber. It's physical work which I'm not used to on top of catching up with what didn't get done while the library was closed. But it's more fun than the 3 weeks before.
I booked a flight to Dublin for January 25th, I'm looking forward to that, too. Only 11 more days! I plan to go to the OBCZ there, too. So if anyone wants one of their books to travel abroad, there's a chance to give it to me at the ladies' meet-up next week or the Wladimir Kaminer reading on Wednesday.
Today I went to the public library to check out a guide book and a literary guide book. Standing in front of the shelf for Ireland I noticed not one, but two guides on Cornwall! And it wasnt a user who put them there by mistake - they had the Ireland signatures on them.
Once the book acquiring guard was down, I couldn't really stop myself. On my way home I had to walk past a book shop I normally manage to ignore. I decided to take the tiniest peek inside just to see if they have guide books too. About 5 minutes later I had found 2 books by Stephen Fry and one by Anne Tyler, debating with myself which ones to take. In the end I took Hippopotamus by Stephen Fry. I love his work, although I have only read his essays and magazine columns before. If I keep on reading at this pace I'll get to this one already in 2010 :-/
