The Eagle (of the Ninth) trailer

Ooh. Two posts in a day. How odd. But anyway. I just discovered that they've released the trailer for The Eagle, the big-screen adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff's classic novel The Eagle of the Ninth.

Slightly apprehensive about how it's going to be, since Eagle of the Ninth is one of my favourite books of all time, so I am slightly terrified that they'll screw it up beyond all reason, but this definitely looks like it'll be watchable. Though there do seem to be a few things which I don't remember being from the book. (But isn't that the way of adaptations?) And I do like the look of the fort at the beginning. From what I remember, it does look like the poky outpost at Isca Dumnoniorum that Sutcliff describes.

It was hard to see if they've kept in Marcus' crippled leg, but it does show the chariot falling on top of him, so fingers crossed.

The fact that the Romans have American accents threw me a loop rather, since I'm used to Romans in movies and TV all speaking the Queen's Latin.

But, have to confess, the minute the trailer introduced Esca, the first thing I thought was, "There needs to be slash."

Then I thought, "Oh God, what have I become?!"

On the other hand, I could totally get behind Marcus/Esca slash.

However - what, no Cub? :(

And it's occurred to me that it's been a couple of years since the last time I read the book. I should do something about that soon.

the eagle (film), this is relevant to mah interests, slash goggles activate!, rosemary sutcliff, the eagle of the ninth
