For Halloween this year some friends and I are having a mad hatters tea party. This is occurring mostly because I need some motivation to finish and a place to wear an elliptical hooped gown. My mom gave me the steel for my hoops as a late birthday present slash new years* present. the corset I finished and wore last year for my birthday I used the one featured on the cover of Jill Salens corsets. So this is my tribute to the the queen of hearts based loosely on the original illustrations in alice and wonderland.
http://www.victorianweb.org/art/illustration/tenniel/alice/1.1.html http://www.victorianweb.org/art/illustration/tenniel/alice/8.2.htmlits interesting how she seems to be an amalgam of queen Mary Tudor and queen Victoria.
the best part is that I get to open the door for trick or treaters and say "off with their heads
so I need a blue and white striped underskirt which will also be part of its own dress later
a red gown trimmed in black
a bloody queen mary headress with a crown on top
a sash tie belt thing and possibly little bustle style drapery this is the spot that all the heart themed stuff goes.
a royal sash
doodads like a scepter a fan which I will probably atatch to a girdle
and Im helping friends by making them corsets. One is the same pattern as mine and the other is a later corset but also one that contains cording. they want bustle gowns i've found the evening bodice from 1975 for one
http://www.tudorlinks.com/treasury/freepatterns/pe187503wlowbodeveview.htmlthe bodice is being made out of some royal to midnight blue dupoine
overskirt and bustle bits made out of a green and blue paisley print. the underskirt/front part is a coraly pink with black lace overlays. I figure we trim the whole thing with a bit more of the coral pink and some of the dark blue trim.
the third outfit will be a bit more steam punk in style its colours are dark purple and the light purple changeable silk that has the blue tones.
this weekend I hope to get one of the other girls corsets mock up done
make my hoop
get the blue and white underskirt done
41 days to deadline and i still don't have red material for my gown
*my parents don't celebrate Christmas because its a pagan holiday and they don't believe in lying to their kids about Santa. In order to give their kids something over the holidays we got new years presents. we also grew up without Halloween and Easter. The expressed views expressed by "the parents" do not necessarily reflect the views of the author of this blog but I respect them immensely for teaching us kids by example how to live and defend what we believe.
