crazy plot idea

This won't leave me alone. Perhaps I can exorcise the idea here:

Snape and Harry are accidentally sent back in time (18th century) by interacting with (Harry touches, Snape tries to push him out of the way) a telescope formerly belonging to Dumbledore. The whole story would resultantly build up around the two of them forming different (optical) perspectives of one another in typical 18th century fashion -- via hot air balloons, Herschel telescopes (comet sweepers), animal magnetism, electrical parlour games, relational chemistry and of course the political and religious debates surrounding the French Revolution (freemasonry!) . . . Of course the whole project immediately runs the danger of becoming a history lesson . . .

Even I have to admit the futility and ridiculousness of such a fic.

I do think JKR could have been inspired by the 19th century view of 18th century chemistry for her portrayal of Snape (see below), but that is also neither here nor there.
