In Character Information:

Name: Sumeragi Subaru
Age: 16
Series: Tokyo Babylon
Timeline: End of tokyo Babylon, after Hokuto's death.

Personality:

-how he was:

Raised by his grandmother and trained to be a shaman, he doesn't really look like he's only a sixteen year old boy; focused on his work enough to be able to forget about sleeping or eating, it almost seems as if his adolescence is passing by without him noticing it.
Anyway, even if he always tries his best in his job as a Shaman, he doesn't like it; he suffers a lot because he's unable to bring happiness to everyone and he's uncomfortable with people, believing himself to be different from everyone else. As he often told his beloved twin sister, Hokuto, his dream was to be a Vet someday. However, he gave up once he discovered he would have to hurt living animals while studying, and his dream become to be a zoo keeper instead; this because, being unable to express his feeling to other humans, he always felt comfortable with animals who, even without words, were able to understand his feelings.
Anyway, even if he doesn't like his job and will not give up his dream, his duties are too important for him and he'll never leave his place as Sumeragi header until he finds a stronger shaman who'll be able to take his place.
Subaru doesn't have real friends and even in his family he doesn't seems comfortable: His relationship with his grandmother, even if they care about each other, is almost cold. In Tokyo Babylon we can see she always talks to him about work and only AFTER she asks him how is he, how are things going and if he's comfortable in Tokyo (and, in a whole year, he never talked with her about his 'best friend', Seishirou.)
With her sister the situation is better, even if maybe she's too energetic for him, and even too bossy. They trust each other and she really cares deeply about him even if they were parted in their childhood. They can be different, having different habits and almost a reversed personality, but he really loved her.
Seishirou? Seishirou was the man he loved, but when he understood his feelings hi whole world collapsed remembering his real first encounter with the man.
At this point of the canon Subaru still has to understand his true wish is to being killed by him.
Looking at them we can notice something else: she often hugs him, but he never hugs her back, probably feeling uncomfortable with physical contact.
Subaru always wears gloves, his grandmother ordered him to wear them as a protection for the Sakurazukamori even if Subaru doesn't remember he met him and doesn't know what are they for.
The fact he never touches other people's skin probably increased his problems with communication.
He's quite naive as well; even if his sister often mixes sexual innuendo in conversation with him, he either flushes or doesn't understand.

-How he is: (He appears for 3-4 pages, maybe? And in Annex//start, yes, but it's X years later)

He lost his naive and shy personality after Hokuto's death. Inside he didn't changed at all, he's still the kind boy we loved but more sad and with a single wish: he wants to kill Seishirou. Yes, it'll be his obsession.
He's feeling guilty for his sister's death and, even if he can't remember completely what happened from the moment he discovered Seishirou's true nature to her death, but he knows it's all his fault.
He'll probably being tormented with nightmares and will start being less talkative than Tokyo Babylon, looking more like his X counterpart.
Probably soon he'll start looking for cigarettes.

History:

Childhood and pre-series

Born the 19 February 1974 in Kyoto in one of the most ancient and powerful Japanese clans, Subaru and his twin sister Hokuto were raised by their grandmother who took they parent's place when they were really young (Is unknown how Subaru's parent died).
Even from their childhood they were both training in the light omnyoji Arts and soon it was evident how Hokuto wasn't strong enough to become a real omnyoji and how Subaru's spiritual powers were strong, probably more than anyone born into the family in several generations; since succession within Sumeragi family was upon the strength of spiritual powers he took  the leadership of the family from his grandmother when he finished training.

Even if he was a child with dreams his power 'limited' it: his sense of duty never let him follow his dreams and he silently accepted both his training and his rule as 13th head of the Sumeragi clan even if promised himself to leave the leadership to someone else if he'll ever find someone with a stronger spiritual power.

When he was an eight years old boy he was separed by his beloved twin by his grandmother to complete his training and perform the Ceremony of succession to take his place as 13th head of the Sumeragi clan: one day, waiting for his grandmother who was at the Municipal office, he felt something calling him and left the place where he was supposed to wait her and started walking through unknown ways looking for the source of that 'voice'.
He found himself under a large cherry tree in Ueno Park and, even it was beautiful, immediately felt the grudges and the hatred inside it; Subaru decided to purify the tree, but, even if he already finished his training, it was the first time he really used his powers and failed.
Helding out his hand to catch a falling petal, then, he noticed some red drops on his palm and looked up between the branches seeing a young man in a high school uniform who was holding a girl's body: His arm was through her chest and the blood was dripping from her large wound.

After a second the teenager used his powers to have Subaru unconscious: he said it was the first time someone saw you while he was killing someone and, after deleting his memories of the murder, he decided to wake him and see what to do after talking to him.

When Subaru awoke he barely noticed the dead body near him, probably unable to see her, and started talking with the stranger apologizing because 'he fainted' and thanking him for his help. Before receiving an answer he commented how beautiful the cherry tree was and the man smiled asking him if he knows why cherry blossoms are pink before explaining him how the blood of the corpses under the tree that feed it turn white petals to pink.

Interested and somehow confused, Subaru asked him if it was painful for the men under the tree and, intrigued by his words, the young man decided to make a bet with the omnyoji: someday he would meet him again and until then Subaru was allowed to survive.
When they would meet again the murder promised to spend a whole year with the boy acting like he was the most important person of his life and, at the end of the year, if he wasn't able to feel something for the omnyoji then he would kill him.

Before leaving him Seishirou kissed the young's hands making him unconscious again and marking him with inverted stars to recognize him as his prey.

His memories of the meeting, anyway, were deleted and Subaru currently doesn't know why his grandmother ordered him to wear gloves from that day onwards and to never allow anyone else to see his hands: he was used to leave them to sleep but when he moved in Tokyo with his sister and she started entering in his room while he was asleep he decided to wear them even nigh time.

Seven years after meeting the Sakurazukamori in Ueno Park Subaru is working for his family in Tokyo living in an adjacent apartment to her sister's in Shinjuko district; someday, chasing a crow spirit at Ikebukuro station, Subaru trip in front of everyone and he met Seishirou (again).

He fastly becomes a stabile presence a stabile presence in the twin's life, even if everything they know about him his how he lives as a veterinarian and the fact he has Subaru's same powers.

Vol.1 - Babel

Subaru’s help is required because strange tremors started affecting the big viewing platform of the Tokyo Tower and he’s supposed to be able to find the reason of it; This probably is the easiest job we can read about, the chapter is used to introduce the main characters: Subaru, Hokuto, who almost has the opposite personality of his brother, and Seishirou, the mysterious man who shows interest in Subaru.

Anyway, the cause of all the shows in the middle of the night, only Subaru and Seishirou are still in the tower, and it appears to be the ghost of a woman, Kato Kazue: she was from Fukuoka and she came to Tokyo when she was 18 just to be unhappy.

After a moment of chaos, she calms down with Subaru's help and starts talking about herself: Kazue tells them she started hating Tokyo very soon when she arrived in the city because she wasn't almost able to survive even working all the day; forced to eat boxed lunches from convenience stores everyday she was unable to ask help to her parents since she run away from her home, but she never abandoned the dream to become a famous actress someday. She did her best when she was alive and se even accepted to have sex with a man to obtain a part in the movie, but when it was cancelled she wasn't able to resist anymore and killed herself.

When Subaru asks her why was she still in the Tower, she answers even if her life was hard and she couldn't waste money, she did like to come in the big platform of the tower and see the city in the night, dreaming to be richer someday and to visit the top platform: in the end she says she's able to love Tokyo a little more thanks to Subaru's help, then allows him to perform the exorcism on her and disappears.

Vol. 1.5 - Destiny

This chapter is a 'slice of life' with the three main characters and starts with a short flashback of the first encounter between Seishirou and Subaru in the Ueno Park, then the scene skips to Ikebukuro station: apparently Seishirou was teasing Subaru telling his sister how was their first (and fake) meeting at Ikebukuro.

Some random flirts from Seishirou who shows how 'he loves' Subaru even if they're both males, some words of approvation from Hokuto; nothing really important happens, they just decides to go to Ueno Park and eat oden even if Sakura were no longer in bloom.

Even if all the other Sakura trees aren't flowering, Subaru notices one in full bloom (he says it's 'beautiful but scary) and starts reminding something about the past and his bet with the Sakurazukamori; Seishirou talks to him and takes off his glasses to show his true-self, even if just for a moment, then Subaru's memories are modified again and everything he remembered is deleted again.

Vol. 2 - Dream

Subaru was called back in the Sumeragi family residence in Kyoto and Subaru's grandmother (she doesn't have a canon name) told him of how she received a visit from an inspector from the cabinet who told her about his suspect about the Sakurazukamori: the death of a politician might be due to the ‘group of assassins’.

Subaru asks her if everyone with the name of ‘sakurazuka’ are related to the sakurazukamori clan and he shows his relief when she answers him no.

Somehow his grandmother mentions the fact the Sakurazukamori is only a person, not a 'group of assassins'.

He returns in his apartment in Tokyo and he has about something happened in his childhood: A girl told him ‘I hate you, you’re not normal’, smiling and apparently without a reason.

When he awakes in his bed he doesn’t understand why he remembered such a thing, but his thoughts are interrupted by his sister and Seishirou, who were hiding in his bed.

They have breakfast together, discussing about many things (like the fact Subaru doesn’t pay attention to eventual ‘enemies’ when he sleeps (even if he objects Hokuto isn’t the enemy so he didn’t felt her presence), the fact he wears gloves even while he sleeps and about his visit to ‘the grandmother’), then the man decides to give Subaru a lift to his next job and, while they’re on the vehicle, he tells the older man of his dream and how deeply he was hurt by the girl's words and how he always felt he was different from others. Seishirou even teases Subaru saying probably the girl was his first love and that’s probably the reason he suffered so much (And he even asks Subaru what he thinks ‘being normal’ is, if for him it’s ‘like everyone else’ or something different. Subaru doesn’t give him any answer.).

When Subaru arrives at the hospital in Ebisu he starts reading about the case: a sixteen years old girl, Kaburagi Mitsuki, fainted four months before after returning home from school and she didn't woke up since that day. Entering in her room he notices she’s the girls from his dream and smiles sadly thinking it's true he isn't normal. (feel free to tell me I’m an idiot, but I ship them ^^’’’)

He is unable to detect a vengeful spirit or signs of possession and he decides to dive into her mind and ask her personally what has happened. For the first time we see him entering in someone’s mind (He’ll do it again in X1999, vol..9, to help Kamui) (he even adds if people have memories about who’s trying to enter in their subconscious it makes it easier).

He was expecting more rejectory action, but when he’s inside he see Mitsuki's consciousness and he discovers that Mitsuki never forgot him: in her dream she’s a child again and she’s playing with the illusion of the young omnyoji. (We’re even pleased with another ‘flashback’ about the young Subaru: he's so kind he accepts to be injuried by bullies to protect a little stray dog.)
When Subaru tries to talk with Mirsuki she doesn’t recognize him and when he tries to explain her he’s the real Subaru and talks about the coma she starts rejecting him; he knows if he hurts something inside the dream he’ll hurt the girl’s mind too and looks in danger, but a eagle he never saw before appeared and saves him (It’s Seishirou’s shikigami).

The shock caused by that spirit breaks the wall she has around her mind and shows what happened and why she doesn’t want to wake up anymore: Mitsuki was abducted and raped by a gang of men.
The girl’s appearance changes and she looks like she really is, telling everything to Subaru; she did her best to forget everything, but everyone around her were gossiping about a ‘raped girl’ and she always felt like they knew. She wasn’t able to tell her mother what happened, hiding everything, and she started thinking it would be wonderful forgetting about that ‘incident’ and dreaming forever.

She also says she loved Subaru since elementary school and she always dreamt of him trying to escape from the reality; With the help of the omnoji who tells her if she never wakes up she’ll never be happy again and, with her, her mother and her friends will be sad too, she finds the strenght to return in the real world.

When she opens her eyes she says she’s glad she was able to wake up and meet the real Subaru.

Vol.2 - Annex//smile

Subaru doesn’t appear in this chapter.

Vol. 3 // Call A & B

When Subaru finished his job he went to Sunshine 60 to meet Seishirou. In the Sumeragi clan is forbidden to receive a fortune from another clairvoyant, but Seishirou convinces Subaru to try when they find a place where a fortune-telling booth is.
It’s lovely how the girl at the desk mistakes him for a girl <3

“Don’t worry, here you deal with a computer, not a fortune teller! So you won’t be breaking your promise to you clan”

While the reading is printing out Subaru receives a call from Hokuto (He carries a pager): he has a new and important job.
In the ‘Dial Q2’ system * there are problems in a party line, a service that allows up to ten people to chat on one phone line and it’s a very expensive service. Several people with phone numbers ending 1999 have been receiving strange calls from this line and everyone of them had problems after that call.

During the conversation between Hokuto, Subaru and Seishirou the results of the fortune telling is revealed too and seems it says the relationship between the two is going to be terrible, but the subject skips on the job the omnyoji has to do.

Subaru enters in he ‘Q2 line’ where a group of girls are talking (presenting himself as ‘Pochi’ as Seishirou suggests) but, when he asks them if they’re making calls he’s attacked with a spell which he easily deflects back, but his first call ends. Subaru even notices the girls are in danger since they’re using incorrect spells to protect themselves and seems sad because he wasn’t able to control himself when he was attacked.

The next day he decides to try again and sends his Shikigami to find and protect the three girls (His shikigami is a white three headed crow and he divides itself in three white crows) : he finds them, they have kekkais on their rooms but the barriers weren’t done properly and were attracting poltergeist instead of protecting them.
Using his shikigamis to attack the spirits and force their barrier he’s able to save them, but he ends up running a fever.

Despite his conditions, he knows he can’t just sit up and wait because the girls are still in danger so he calls the line again even if he’s sick: only one of the girl is connected to the 2Q, and Subaru is able to convince her he’s not an enemy and the barrier she put on his wall is wrong written.
She breaks the spell and Subaru begins to exorcise the ghosts around her ; everything seems to go in the right way, but the other girls joins the line and starts using spells against him.

Subaru refuses to protect himself because he doesn’t want to hurt them and is able to exorcise only the first girl, then he faints.

Some days later he talks with Seishirou and Hokuto about the job he had he says he’s sad because he wasn’t able to protect two of three girls (probably he thinks it’s his fault, Subaru doesn’t know it’s Seishirou the one who used his powers against them) and the other is seeing a psychologist because she keeps saying she saw a ghost.

Vol. 4 // Crime

Subaru is sad when, in his way to meet Seishirou and Hokuto in a bar, he see a Shinto shrine being demolished. He would do something, but knows there’s nothing he can do .
He discusses with his twin and the man about how prices of graves aren’t getting any cheaper and how high they are: many people seems to save up they entire lives for a grave.

Talking, Subaru tells them he doesn’t have to work but he has to go to the Yasukuni Shinto Shrine to do a sketch of it for the next day: since he has been absent for nearly all the Art classes the teacher gave him a special assignment instead of dropping him and Subaru seems to appreciate it.
Hokuto is worried about Subaru’s dinner because she’ll g out for a date: she offers to prepare bento, then Seishirou invites him home.

Alone in front of the Shrine, painting, Subaru wonders if Seishirou can control magic of some kind since he used spells to protect him on the tower (Vol.1 - Babel), but his thought are interrupted by a weird feeling: even if the shrine is empty of spiritual manifestations he feels someone has casted a spell and leaves everything to find who did it.

He finds a woman who just buried her dog’s head to create an Inugami, a dog spirit, and Subaru tells her that not only the target of her curse will be claimed, but her as well, she doesn't seem to care: she says her happiness already ended when her daughter was killed two years before.
She never returned from kindergarten and they found her dead body only after a whole month, abandoned in a nearby river.
The man who killed her was a complete stranger, he was caught but he wasn’t found guilty because the psychiatric analysis declared him insane. The woman says she made her own decision the moment she heard the court’s verdict: if the law wasn’t going to execute him then she would kill him herself.

Despite her feelings, Subaru knows he can't let her go ahead with the curse and calms her down asking her if Mai, her daughter, would be happy to see her like this; Subaru performs a summoning ritual calling the child’s spirit, but when she appears what she says shocks the omnyoji.
She cries, she tells ‘it hurts’ and clearly wants her mother to kill that man but, since the mother can’t hear what she says, after a long moment Subaru forces himself to say Mai only wants her mother’s happiness laying.
Before disappearing again Mai glares at Subaru, screaming again, at him, ‘it hurts, it hurts so much.’.

Later, at Seishirou’s apartment, Subaru comes from as planned but doesn’t enter: he apologises because he knows Seishirou made dinner even for him, but he needs to go home. The man notices the other is crying and pulls him inside.
Subaru tells him what happened at the shrine and how he’s a liar, but Seishirou tells him to forgive himself and asks him to sleep, granting he’ll be at his side ready to anyone who comes around to call him a liar.

Vol.5 - Save A & B

Despite having only slept for two hours, Subaru is going to go to a study session at school even if it’s a holiday for the founding anniversary.
Hokuto is in his apartment to prepare his lunch when he awakes and get angry when discovers he returned home at 10.AM and about his plans to leave again, overdoing, but he explains her how he doesn’t want to give up his dream to study veterinary medicine; Subaru’s dream is to find, someday, a stronger omnyoji who’ll take his place and to be able to spend his life with his beloved animals.

Before he is able to leave for school, Subaru receives another calls (it’s adorable how Hokuto helps him while he talks) and discovers he was assigned to another job and asks his sister to cal l the teacher because he’ll not be able to attend school again.

When Subaru reaches the place where he was told to wait he finds out the person who’ll give him information about his job is his grandmother;. They discuss about Subaru’s job before anything else: the Ministry of Education requested Subaru’s help to investigate in a High school , MS Institute, to gather information about a new rising religious group by pretending to be a normal student.

His grandmother tells him, then, she’s not in Tokyo only to talk about his job, but even because she’s worried about him: she did a fortune reading in the fire meeting of the month and she saw him being SWEPT AWAY by the Sakura, but Subaru doesn’t understand what she means.
She asks him if he always wears his gloves and shows her regret to having left him alone seven years before.

The first day in the Institute he meets another girl, Hashimoto Kuniko, in the teacher’s room and discovers they’re in the same class, the meets the director of the institute, Nagi Kumiko, and notices how, even without peculiar powers, she seems able to control all the other students beside him and the diffident girl he met first.*

.Kumiko notices her words can’t influence them and calls them in her office; she asks Subaru how’s his first impression of the place then tells them children need a pillar to rely upon and religion is the best thing to them. Apparently she really cares about others and adds she opened up the institute to help save children in the best way possible.
Kuniko answers she prayed all days like Kumiko told her but nothing changed and Subaru wonders how can a person nice like the director, who seems more like a school music teacher, be the founder of a religious sect.

After school he meets Kuniko again: she was being bullied by other girls and runs away only to fall in front of the omnyoji. At first she’s scared and, when he tries to help her, she slaps him accidentally scratching his cheek but Subaru doesn’t react like she’s expecting and approaches her again with a smile, offering her a handkerchief to clean her own blood.

Kuniko starts being comfortable around him, noticing how kind the omnyoji is, and opens to him; they’re in the park and she asks Subaru why he joined the MS institute and, pretending to be a normal adolescent, he answers he saw it in a magazine and decided to enter in it. She continues talking, explaining how she met Kumiko in the same park and how the director told her she could improve the situation loving and believing more in herself, but even doing what she told her nothing changed.

Subaru listens everything and apologise, offering her his GIACCONE and saying he doesn’t know what should he say to make her feel better: she’s really touched because, until that moment, everyone pretended to tell her everything and smiles thanking him and blushing.

The next day, when Subaru leaves home, both Seishirou and Hokuto are in his apartment, preparing home-made cookies. He greets them and leaves home to reach the school again.

The first person he meets is Kuniko (Who blushes and probably developed a crush on Subaru) and offers her the cookies his sister made before attending classes.
After school Kumiko calls him in her office and tells Subaru Kuniko was attacked during an art class, adding if Kuniko had just prayed harder, it would have never happened; Subaru is really shocked when he discovers she was stabbed at her face, losing her eye, and he doesn’t know it happened because she was trying to protect his handkerchief from the other girls.

She also reveals she already knew Subaru has special powers and tries to convince him she can help him with his suffering. The omnyoji looks upset and answers her she can’t save anyone because she can’t understand anyone’s feelings. Asks her how can she know how Kuniko was feeling, how can she pretend to know other people’s pain if she’s not them. Subaru tells the scar in the girl’s face will never fade and asks Kumiko if she can only say Hashimoto’s prayers did not work.**

He’s still screaming against her when Seishirou appears in the room and uses his powers to make Subaru unconscious. When the omnyoji awakes the director is dead and he’s in his room; he remembers he went to the director’s office, somehow, but he doesn’t remember what happened after meeting her.

Visiting the hospital to see Kuniko, the girl refuses to let him enter in his room; he leaves flowers in front of the door and says he’s sorry to disturb her, but when he tries to walk away she stops him.
She says she still has to return his handkerchief, but she doesn’t want him to see her like that: she wants to become stronger so that she can survive in this world. Kuniko asks if she can take care of the item until she’s strong enough to meet him again and Subaru answers he hopes to meet her again.

*I’d like to know if, like Kotori, she has some kind of potential.

**Angry Subaru, yay! <3

Vol. 5.5 - Annex // Secret

It’s in TB’s last Volume, but Subaru’s unconscious for the whole chapter.

Vol. 6 // Old

After performing an exorcism in a house, Subaru accidentally meets an old man in a park and is surprised by how the birds seems to love him.

When one of the animals shows interest in the omnyoji the elder man notices him and they starts talking: he explains Subaru birds are his friends because animals can easily understand everyone’s feelings and they knows who truly wants to be ‘friend’ and adds the only ones who cannot understand another’s heart are people.

Subaru seems to agree and says that’s why he loves animals with a large smile and enthusiasm then starts telling the man he had a puppy when he was young: he was really happy with that dog (the name isn’t revealed), but someday he fell sick and, even staying by his side worrying and worrying, he was just able to see him die.

He talks about his relationship with his pet and tells the man his dream is to be a veterinarian, but he would also like to works as an animal caretaker in a zoo and spending all of his time with animals because he feels uncomfortable when he’s with people: he isn’t used to speak much and hates when nobody understand him but he doesn’t have to say anything for animals to understand.

After a while of speaking together, Subaru apologises for keeping the man because his family must be worried about him but the man tells him no one is worried about him because he’s just a problem in his house.

Subaru keeps visiting him and starts calling him ‘grandpa’ and, probably after some meetings, he dares to ask the elder men if he has a dream: he answer he has one and shows him a picture of his family: his wife, Kanae, died when his daughter, Sachiyo, was only six and the last words she told him were “I haven’t been able to do much for Sachiyo, so you will have to do them for me. In my stead, I want you to do one hundred things that make Sachiyo happy.’ And he promised to do so.
He adds he has only ‘one left’ and his dream is to see his daughter happy, then he would be able to leave the world happy.

Days passes and Subaru is at the park again with the Bento Hokuto prepared for him and ‘grandpa’: he hears a strong noise and someone says a man was hit by a truck.
Subaru walks to the place where the incident happened just to find out his ‘grand father’ is the hurt man and he dies between his arms after asking him to take the bananas he bought to his daughter because she always loved them. The omnyoji moves in front of the old man’s house, covered in blood, and tells the woman just died in the park giving her the fruits.

Some days after the man’s death, Subaru, Hokuto and Seishirou go to the park Subaru and grandpa always met to lay flowers on the place where they were used to talk; they tries to cheer up the omnyoji and he see the old man’s family walking to reach the graveyard; Sachiyo really repents what she did at her father, but looks better and Subaru see the old man’s spirit on a tree, between his beloved birds, smiling at him.

Vol. 7 // Box

It starts like another slice of life with the twins and Seishirou: they’re at the karaoke and, when it’s Subaru’s turn to sing, Seishirou asks him to go at the sending machine outside to buy his cigarettes even if only Hokuto notices he did it to save his brother (She says she knows he smoke, but he never does it in front of them.).

While he’s buying the pack of cigarettes a woman interrupts him and forces Subaru to join her in the karaoke, singing in front of him; the omnyoji probably understands immediately she’s a ghost, and asks her why is she so sad. For a moment he seems to regret asking her something so personal, but she starts talking and tells him he’s not only beautiful, but he even can see the truth: she had an affair committing adultery with her boss at work even if he was married: the first night they went out to have a dinner and after the third date they slept together.

One day her lover told her the affair had to end and to her it was as if her whole life was over. She was used to come to the karaoke box everyday to sing (and he noticed Subaru even because he was buying ‘Seven Mild’, the same band he was used to smoke.) songs about unhappy women thinking it would never happen to her, but when she was rejected she felt like her life become a lonely, sad song.

Subaru tells her that know one can know what her suffering was like and no one has the right to laugh at her like she believes, then says he really hopes the next time she’ll not regret living. She seems surprised then thanks him and disappears.

When he rejoins Seishirou and Hokuto the man tells him he did a good job and Subaru wonders if he knew of the ghost.

Vol. 8 // Rebirth

After catching a flu, Subaru went to the Shinjuku Hospital with Hokuto; waiting for her sister to get medicines, he meet a young boy, Yuya.

The child is at the hospital for kidney dialysis and seems interested in the omnyoji’s company: Yuya tells him ‘I come here every two days’ wanting to meet Subaru again and he starts caring even about the child.

While Subaru rests a little, Hokuto spends time with Seishirou explaining how his twin feels concern for everyone he has ever met and remembers them all even if they forget the boy. She says he always ‘embraces’ them, now matter how big is the distance between them, remembering their pain and caring about them.

She adds at the moment Subaru doesn’t have anyone he truly loves but if someone ever broke his heart it would kill him.

Subaru returns to the hospital to meet Yuya again, but when the child appears he’s feeling sick. While he sleeps Subaru waits outside listening his mother, who seems desperate, begging the doctor for a kidney and, when Subaru visits Yuya the next time with Seishirou, a patient at the hospital dies (His brain died, but his body is still alive) and she rushes toward his wife begging her too to give her husband’s kidney to her child.

The omnyoji, Speaking with Yuya's doctor, discovers Yuya had a sister too, Maya, and she suffered from her brother’s same illness. The mother had to decide between saving Maya or Yuya and decided to give her organ to her daughter, but it was rejected and Maya died.

After speaking with doctors, he tells Seishirou he would be happy to donate his life if he could save someone and he receives a gentle hug* from the vet: Subaru tells him he’s sure Hokuto and his sister will be upset with him when they’ll find out he decided to be a donor, but the man reassures him murmuring they would both happy and proud of him if it’s something Subaru really wants.

Subaru goes out of the hospital to buy the book Yuya asked for, but when he returns at the hospital the child is collapsing: due to the stress, while Yuya is in the emergency room, his mother's mind collapses and he's unable to tell her he wants to be a donor before she attacks him.
Subaru won't move in front of her, but Seishirou appears in front of him and is stabbed at his place, losing his right eye.
For the first time Subaru loses his control: he screams, cries and shows his true feelings.

*Fangirling mode on: The picture where Seishirou hugs him... it’s pure love. çOç

Vol.9 - News

Subaru, after the last events, closed himself in his room, only waiting to know what happened to Seishirou

Abilities/Powers: (About reducing them i game... it's in italic)

-Martial arts: even if he doesn't want to hurt anyone, he was raised learning how to fight without weapons. Even if he doesn't remember anything about his past, his body remembers everything and, even if he's almost always inoffensive he could istinctively react (or act to defend someone) without thinking if someone tries to hurt him. He'll probably be weaker than before.

-Animal Empathy: He can easily understand animal's feelings and, apparently, they feel comfortable with him around even if they aren't supposed to relate with someone else than their masters.

-Understanding: he's able to understand easily creature's feelings even if they don't talk. Anyway, even if he's really able to look inside others, when he has to understand his own feelings he's unable to do it. Until now his twin sister apparently was the only one who was able to look inside him. Even if it seems a positive thing it's a problem for him because the suffering of other souls affect him more than his feelings do; in this way he'll always destinated to suffer and worry about someone else.

-Reading maps: Since he has no sense of direction he always had to rely upon faxed maps to find his way to jobs in his world and he developed a grat ability in reading every kind of maps.

-Seeing dead people: If there's a ghost he can see it or perceive his presence if it's hiding somewhere. Only seeing them in the worse moments and when he shouldn't, never when it would be useful for him.

-Summoning shikigami: He has a spirit guide, a two-headed crow, his main shikigami.  He'll just lose his ability to summon his white crow.

-Deep Dive: When he is unable to detect a vengeful spirit or possession, he can to dive into people's mind and ask them personally what has happened. It isn't easy like it seems, it's a special ability of Sumeragi Clan, and entering inside someone is dangerous: if the soul he's trying to penetrate reject him not only his soul can be hurt, but even his body suffer for it.

-Formed Onmyoji: As onmyoji he can use his powers to help people or fight. He can summon simple shikigami to fight; they appear like white birds and can be used like spiritual arrows even if he usually uses them to protect himself. He can do exorcisms, erect kekkais, see ghosts and summon/talk with spirits of dead people. He'll almost lose all his powers: exorcism'll work only with weak spirits or causing a lot of pain to Subaru, he'll not being able to summon ghost unless spirits wants to be summoned, he'll be unable to erect large kekkais and his ofuda'll be useless.

Third Person sample: [At least a paragraph, about anything your character would do - just a short example of your writing is all we need.]

First person Sample: [This can also be anything you want/a previously used sample, or you could write about the first time your character dreams of the manor.]

Notes:
I... I know it's an 'uncommon' Subaru, but I think in the end of TB he really wants to kill the Sakuraukamori, then he starts having doubts even from 'Annex//start' after talking with the ghost girl.
I think he changes a lot from TB's end and in X he seems a different person... and I still think he needed a lot to understand his wish was't to kill the man, but being killed by him.
