The *next* president on BSG

I wouldn't like anything bad happening to Lee Adama at the end of BSG, but if by chance he decided to leave politics (you know, if he married a certain pilot whose peccadillos might make it a lil' harder to be reelected ... or if he wanted the chance to raise a real family ( Read more... )

Yes, I see what you're both saying. I think he has deep-seated issues with Starbuck that led to the mutiny. It was much more than not believing her, it was subconscious payback for him almost getting spaced, and her unwillingness to let him plead his case. His level of trust in his fellow soldiers has to be almost non-existent after those events, but maybe he identifies more with civilians?

He added a touch of humor to so many episodes, and until that episode, I felt he was usually like Helo - striving to do the right thing, make moral decisions. Certainly more than Dee! OK, except for him trying to kill Baltar, only, I can see how someone might feel that was the moral thing to do, too -- especially someone who doesn't anticipate a martyrdom rising up around him.

One person that I see as having some similar traits was the character of Zack on B5 - a guy who makes some pretty major mistakes, getting involved with the jackboot squad in the 2nd and 3rd season of the show. But he ends up becoming a major advisor, and font of wisdom, at the conclusion of the series.

He would have to change again, but I can't really see anyone else, besides Lee, even beginning to step into that big void that will be left if the President and/or Adama die. Zarek has to be considered weak after stepping down... and Billy is dead... Tory is a sociopath who I hope will not survive the season.

Oh, I absolutely think that was his reasoning. And rightly so (from his POV). I think Ron Moore evens mentions it in a podcast that Gaeta acts this way because he's all bitter. And we know how RDM loves conflict between his characters.

OK, except for him trying to kill Baltar, only, I can see how someone might feel that was the moral thing to do, too -- especially someone who doesn't anticipate a martyrdom rising up around him.

Well, Felix resulted to lying at the trial in hopes of getting Baltar convicted and he attempted murder. So that's why I think that pre-trial Gaeta might've been okay for leadership but now something's changed in him and he's no longer a person you can trust to do right thing, he's more likely to dispense his own justice based on his own personal feelings.

But then, I think fault could easily be found with any possible candidate...including Lee. So maybe it's about the lesser of two evils.
