Starbuck's final fate - one theory, and similarities to other media SF?

A link on Latteaddict's great post regarding the Lee/Kara relationship on BSG has made me come to a new conclusion regarding the character of Starbuck. This is spoilery speculation with MAJOR spoilers for Babylon 5, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Galactica 1980.

Oh dear... Kara goes bye-bye to Lee and normal life? )

women in media sf, star trek: ds9, bsg, benjamin sisko, john sheridan, babylon 5, bad girls, kara thrace, kara/lee, destiny blah blah blah, transgressive women

you'll become so lofty that you'll no longer interact with mere mortals? How is this that much better than killing off
I liked your analysis of the fate of powerful female (TV) characters. I don't have a problem with them being forced to transcend reality, though. Killing them off is an easy way out, they are really gone in that case. Having them turn into transcendental beings is in my opinion, a nicer option. Having them turn into transcendental beings is in my opinion, a nicer option. Than death, yes, I agree -- but for Kara, it's also keeping in with the traditional role of the "goddess" in Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" (you know, which inspired Star Wars)... The goddess is a queen-like, powerful figure who the hero bonds with. I had hoped that Kara was the hero in the story; but if Kara becomes the goddess, that kind of implies that Lee is the real hero. I get that the story is cyclical ( ... )
