I was watching you mother
your white form so delicate in the breeze
venturing towards the waters edge
with those waves creeping ever so close
I watched you
ruffled feathers and flashing wings
escaping the dark waters time and again
I saw you
venture back to that edge, gazing into those depths
craving that darkness
your heart longing for something lost to the sea
I see you
taking flight
claimed by the wind and the rain
your silhouette vanishing into the gray sky
fading from me
disappearing as you always did
I sat there upon withered roots
watching and waiting
feeling the smooth bark with my skin
I stood up and I walked away
I walked away from those waters
having given my tears to the sea
I left you
and I began to walk home
