I stumbled across some new pictures of the Padme gown, Miana Kenobi of TFN boards gave me a link to her
Flickr with the hi-rez! These two are the ones I've been studying... since, erm, 3 am...
Now the first one eith the beading... after all this time looking for Navette/Marquise beads, those aren't beads at all, they're sequins! Not that it'd make them easier to find, but they'd be cheaper if I DID find them. Also I can see a few of the clear yellow and pink seeds thrown in there, and the purple/gray base fabric the beading is on (I'm going to try poly georgette so I can fuse the raw edges) is chain-stitched down with a gold thread. The center of the flower is probably a sequin too, it looks strangely rolled-up.
I'm glad the second picture has a more clear view of what's going on with the embroidery. First off, I don't think the vines are embroidered so much as some sort of thin cording or embroidery floss that's couched down on top of the fabric, and sometimes it's doubled or trippled, which tells me it's all just continuous lines. It looks purple with a light purple/gray thread holding it down (or vice versa). The 'flowers' aren't really defined much at all, but there's mixes of rose pink, bright green, gold and purple. The fabric itself almost looks like the weft threads are amethyst purple metallic and silver metallic with the weave threads being black. I guess I'll just keep my eye out for amethyst and metallic!
I feel so much more confident now that I've seen these things.
-edit- These are a little too fat and one color, but I wonder if I can trim them and paint the tops with a transparent glass paint or something...
