Days 1 & 2...

The trip started with an uneventful drive starting at about 6 in the morning...

Since my mother needed a vacation we decided to go together and share a room. It was cool since we were about a mile away from the hotel, and she drove me back and forth. After we checked in we headed down to the Sheraton to "swing by and pick up my badge". Someone said it was no big deal, usually a 20 minute wait... LIAR! The line wrapped around 3 sides of the building by the time I got in it, it was a city block... once we got into the hotel, we got intoa ballroom with a huge snaking line. We came in about 5 and didn't get out until 9. There was a guy a line over who was a professional balloon artist who just kept blowing up balloons, making balls for us to throw around, making dorky hats (he made one hat with the Enterprise and Earth). People would boo if one would pop or yell "Fail!" if someone neglected to bop a balloon back in the air, so that was at least amusing. I think I saw an old friend of mine in the line who ignored me... she's changed lately, so I'm glad I didn't bump into her again over the weekend. :p it had me stressed though.

Friday was up bright and early so mom could do my hair. We spent two nights previously *trying* to figure out how to do my thin, short hair up 18th Century style, and I think we got as good as we could. We poofed my hair up in the front (doesn't look it. Stupid thin hair) and pulled it back in a pony-tail, then stuck in some hair pieces, curled them (my own hair won't hold a curl) and pinned them in, then had a couple banana curls hanging over my shoulder. Pretty good! Only prob was, the hair matched my hair when down, but pulled up, all that hair that's never seen sunlight was pretty dark so the curls didn't match. Grrr... laced up my corset and off I went. I didn't finish my 18th Cent shoes because I didn't want to kill my feet the first day. I wore my tennis shoes.

It was quite fun wandering around. I went to the Stargate Atlantis Panel, which turned into the Paul McGillion panel because the other three panellists (including Joe Flanigan) either missed flights or had a mix-up. Boo. But Paul McGillion was fun... everytime the chick in charge of the panel or a female questioner would be there he'd drop into his scottish accent, more on the randy side and would make comments like "sexy thing" and "hot mama" comments, it was awesome. Mmmm, scottish ;) I have pics of him to come later.

I spent the morning til lunch wandering around with one of the Mercs and later went to the Advanced LOTR costuming panel. It was fun, but didn't tell me much I didn't already know. They had an Aragorn that was awesome, and some of his distressing techniques were interesting. Wandered some more... I couldn't believe how much I got stopped for pictures! Moreso than the other two costumes too, which surprised me. But it was fun. Hoping some of those pictures pop up. I also ran into betapleatedsheet and kairi-g from deviantart, and padawansguide from the f-list! It was nice to finally meet you :) I also met SisterSola, benaequee, Beret from RebelLegion, and a bunch of other Legionaires and DeviantArt. :D

After my wandering, I went to get pre-judged for the costume contest. By this time the pinking on my lovely hand-pleated trim on the hem of my petticoat was unravelling badly. At least one of the judges mentioned "but that's how they DID finish the edges. It must not have lasted them long either" They also asked about my shoes and I had to tell them "I opted for comfort this time around". But, it was fun to participate, had a lot of fun wandering around looking at all the other costumers and talking to them. When I went up on stage and they came to the part about my pocket hoops, I decided to pull a coke out of my hoops and take a drink, which seems to have amused the audience a lot... they burst out laughing, making the MC's quizzically look up from their paper to see what was going on. That was fun ;) I had in my pocket hoops: a camera, a cell phone, a spare battery, a bottle of coke, a pocket program (these were huge btw), kleenex, chapstick, a mirror, cards I kept getting handed, my $$, safety pins... I might have had more in there... I love pockethoops *g*.

By the end of the contest I was ready to get out of that damn corset! My back hurt so much, but at least my feet were fine. I bumped into my friend Casey from the Opera St. Louis gig. After that I went back to the hotel and ordered a pizza. And breathed a big sigh of relief the minute that corset was unlaced ;)

Oh yeah, and tomorrow I'm placing the button order, so last chance to get in on that :)
