Adventures in Shopping, Tech Edition

While Mom was off on a spa day (which she'd bought back in April on Groupon), I decided I'd nip off to Best Buy for a monitor for her Mac mini (bought in March only to discover that the monitor we already had was missing a power cable) and a couple of cameras.
The monitor worked first try (larger than mine for under $100). The site of the company that made the cameras, however, stated that the cameras I had just bought (at $75 each) were not Mac-compatible. Oops.
Still, being able to set up Mom's computer was a plus. Then, just to make absolutely sure the cameras would have to be exchanged, I plugged one in. Checked the Preferences under sound. "Unknown USB Audio Device". There is a microphone on this camera... switch to it... it works?
Switch to Skype, Preferences, Video... there's me, staring back at me.
Turns out the software that comes with the camera is not Mac-compatible. The cameras themselves are.
Even did a test QuickTime video recording. That worked.
