Oils, and lye, and soaps, oh my!

Dec 18, 2008 01:13

> In the last four months, I have read, re-read, triple and quadruple read soaping instructions. Watched soaping videos x 10 times. Read through 270 pages of topics on what could go wrong with my soap. I FINK I AM REDI.

> I soaped today. So far (it's about 45 minutes later) it's been going *crosses fingers* perfectly. A little spilling with the lye crystals due to a container that's too small, but I got that under control soon enough.

> Soap (30% cocoa butter) smells ridiculously good. Sprinkled some chocolate chips on top.

> OMG OMG OMG I HOPE NOTHING GOES WRONG IF IT DOES I'M GOING TO CRY.

> (It's weird how every time my skin tingles I freak out and I think it's a stray NaOH crystal that's found it's way through my epidermis and into my delicious organs.)

> Anyway, onto the purpose of this post -> VOLUNTEERS WANTED: I know I totally posted this like, five months ago, but now I've a giant slab of 7.5" x 2" x 4.25" chocolate soap. I shall cut it up into small chunks and distribute among friends and family, but I will have a ton of it left over. If you desire to test my first try at soap (I'll include an ingredients list and er, photographic proof that the PH is alright), feel free to leave a message. If the soap happens to behave when I uncover it tomorrow, I will send a small tester slice your way, probably a 1" x .5" x 2" slice (free of charge if I can't get to you geographically, but erm donations welcome :D) in about 4 weeks, free of charge. All I'm asking is for you to fill out a questionnaire card after trying it.

> ETA: I just checked on it (approx 1.5-2 hours since soaping) and it looks beautiful :D Creamy creamy, and it smells awesome too. Some of the chocolate chips have mutated though. I was all wtf :O. Will go to bed now and uncover tomorrow at midnight :D
