I really hate taking an exam, feeling okay about it, and then realizing later on you made a bunch of *stupid* mistakes.
I am not worried about getting an A in Theriogenology (ie reproduction), but goddammit I wanna get a C.
Two exams are our only grades and I got a C+ on the first one.
oh and our grading scale blows. It is NOT a 10-point scale like most colleges:

94 A 4.0 GPA points
91 thru 93.9 A-, 3.7
88 to 90.9 B+ 3.3
85 to 87.9 B 3.0
82 to 84.9 B- 2.7
79 to 81.9 C+ 2.3 Really? You get an 80 on an exam and that is a C?
76 to 78.9 C 2.0
73 to 75.9 C- 1.7
70 to 72.9 D+ 1.3
67 to 69.9 D 1.0
64 to 66.9 D- 0.7
Below 64 failing 0 pts

If your GPA goes below 2.5 (which many students do with a mix of A's B's and C's) you go on academic probation, and if you do that twice, you're out. So much for the C=DVM adage.

Don't get me wrong, I think academic rigor is important. BUT.
VMRCVM is not a "top" or "elite" program. Compared to other veterinary programs I think it's kind of middle-to-low end of the stack. We don't have great facilities (though they are slowly trying to do little upgrades every few years), we don't have good student-to-teacher ratios in small classes/labs (Usually one teacher to 25-48 students), the program is pretty disjointed and has lots of places where it desperately needs to be revamped or made more cohesive. We are not NC State, we are not Cornell or UPenn or Colorado.
So making our grading curve more difficult seems to add insult to injury. They say it makes the school's students that more valuable because our school grades harder, but to me on the other hand if you are just comparing GPA of person A to person B, then we look worse.
I know that GPA and grades aren't everything, but they matter when it comes to a few things, like MONEY.
I am trying to get scholarship money to help offset costs, and many of them are based either on a) need or b) academic achievement.
Sigh.

I am probably just being a twit.
I am often hard on myself academically, and I get upset that I never seem to break past the top 30%, but at the same time, I have a life, have issues that come up, etc that maybe some other people would just ignore for the A grade. *shrug*

Besides. I hate repro. Just put the two beasts together and if they can't figure it out, then dammit, maybe it is for the best they don't breed! (kidding. mostly.)
