So I figured out the topic of my paper for Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance class: the role of alpha female characters. Some of it will be comparing to other types, but the focus is on the character and what makes her in charge. How research/buzz has been done about the Alpha Male, but in the UF and PR genres, there are plenty of alpha females that seem to get kind of swept under by the alpha male.
I'd definitely put Jeaniene Frost's Cat as an alpha female. I'd even say Mercy Thompson from Patricia Brigg's series, too. Elena Michaels and Eve Dallas (wrong genre, self) from Kelley Armstrong for sure. I want to discuss what makes them so similar even though there's not a lot of similar circumstances. And I'd love to hear more options so I can beef up the paper and make it more well-rounded. I know there are some authors/series I haven't read. I read a lot but the genres are freaking large. I don't know if I'd consider Queen Betsy from MaryJanice Davidson or not, queen not withstanding. Maybe Fred.
I think this will be a kick butt topic and will highlight some missing areas.
So if anyone has ANY links that are legit? I'd love you forever and send homemade virtual cookies (trust me, those are better than my baking attempts).
