The problem you are having is because you give a shit and the people you are trying to help are far less mature than you are at there stages of development in their lives than you.
Me and my brother both ran into the same problem in the military, a lot of the people we were surrounded by were like a bunch of immature children trying to think they were adults, but showing the maturity level of 2 yr. olds.
Just do what you think is the right thing to do, and move on. There will always be wars and rumors of wars, there will always be poor and suffering people, and there will always people seeking people to 'help' them, and not wanting to hear what you are saying because it is not what they want to hear. So is life. It is no reflection on you.
When I feed a wild bird or stray animal or such, I do it out of the kindness of my heart for the benefit of another living thing. I am not trying to own or cause that thing I try to help become indebted to me for trying to help it, I do it because of who I am and why I am here in the first place and because I care. I can leave this world knowing I had a positive impact on a world sorely in need of as much help as it can possibly get and by doing so, also have changed the whole world forever.
