For my Mom's birthday Chris and I had her over for a celebratory dinner. I made apricot glazed wings, a cucumber and radish salad w/ a tahini dressing and rice (the rice was NOT a success but we all ate it and it was reasonably satisfying). For dessert I made a lemon bundt cake. Yum! I even picked up a tea that my Mom likes so I could brew a pot for all of us. It was all very warm and cozy. Eating at the table I've known for all my life, sharing a meal, stories and ourselves. A lovely memory I will treasure always. After dinner we watched the latter half of The Princess Bride. The next morning, her actual birthday, I brought her a cuppa tea and gave her a card and her birthday gift, a sewing machine fix it kit. She loved everything. The dinner, the tea, the card and the gift which she announced, "clever!"
I called her this morning, right after waking up, to see how her day went and she told me that my Dad had Faye call her to wish her a happy birthday. We both exclaimed how great it was that he remembered at all (even before the dementia, remembering her birthday was haphazard, at best). Faye also told her how he has been asking to borrow money from her so that he can take a cab to go to Kaiser to make himself an appointment for yet another "second opinion." Faye also reported that he'd been using "f" word and when spoken to it about it after the fact, he had absolutely no recollection and denied it emphatically. (am I repeating myself? have I all ready shared this with y'all?)
I'm watching House of 1000 Corpses. Sheri Moon is one crazy bitch. And her laugh? Sends shivers up and down my spine, it does!
