First, Thabo Mbeki leads his people astray on AIDS... now Gambian president says prayer and herbal paste can cure it. W-T-F?

Beware, Facebook junkies. The First Amendment doesnt seem to exist if you're still in uni.

In other nooze, I can't WAIT to go to see everyone in Belfast for St. Paddy's. So much so that it's overshadowing the first leg of my trip. Brona'll be gone to Peru, but to visit the other ladies of Women's Aid, to fuck about drunk with Ryan, to finally meet Andy, and to reconnect with the boys of Balfour... my body's high with anticipation. I leave in less than 2 weeks. NUTS.

I FINALLY saw The Prestige. FAR FAR more suspenseful than I ever expected. OMG OMG OMG it was so good. Christian Bale, after Daniel Day Lewis, may well be the best method actor out there. And the man's bloody gorgeous (see exhibit A) aside from his odd-shaped teeth! Deven's doppelganger tbh.

I've noticed lately that I just don't have much to say to people anymore. I used to feel the need to gush about certain things, but anything I feel so obligated to get off my chest, I do with Craicmaster, maybe J, and that's the end of it. Is it a sign of maturity - or is it a sign of a boring life? (Perhaps the two go hand in hand.) In any case, I kinda like it, cos my big mouth has gotten me in trouble a fair bit. Self-control is what I strive to have, and self-control is what I'm slowly acquiring. I've even cut down on gorging and have pushed myself to work out for 2 hours every other night. Pretty proud of myself in that respect. Whether my pant size will drop accordingly though remains to be seen. I feel great though, when I push myself to the limit.

Valentine's Day was ho-hum, but the weekend prior when Jon and I celebrated it up in Niagara and Toronto was really nice. Niagara was bloody cold as the tiny shards of ice rain sliced through the air and violated our faces. Uggghhh. Thankfully, we layered til we looked bloated, and only our pink cheeks and cold feet suffered. Since we went in the winter, some of the main attractions were closed (Maid of the Mist and one part of Journey Behind the Falls), but I can't imagine a warm-weather Niagara experience could be any more spectacular visually than it was in the blistering cold. (Jon even had a wee friendly squirrel crawl up his leg and beg for food out of his hand!)

Toronto was mainly a bust, attraction-wise, but it's as obscenely multi-cultural as they say. Their Chinatown was about 5 times that of Boston's, and so I felt right at home. :D My favourite part, however, was Koreatown -- maybe cos it was a bit of a novelty and at least partly cos of the non-touristy local student atmosphere of the area. We saw Ethiopian and Mediterranean restaurants amid all the funky cartoon-ish Korean characters splayed across storefront signs. Lovely just.

The only sad consequence of the whole trip was that I became finely attuned to some of Jon's passive-aggressive tendencies. He'll bow at my feet to fulfill any wish I have (which, as sweet as it is, I find kinda unappealing), but if he senses that any injustice has been done to him, especially if someone's assaulted his ego in front of someone he cares about, you can expect all kinds of rage to flare up through his teeny little head and him to relive and re-do the situation over and over in his head. Heart of gold, so he has, but I worship more well-placed assertiveness.

And so I shall spend the next few weeks to continue to de-fattify, to research my trip, and to put up my photos of Niagara & Toronto.

Oh, and for my final victory of this entry, I am so brilliant.  I replaced my LCD screen in my U2 ipod (never EVER let Eamon handle small electronics) last night in not 10 minutes - a process which cost <$35 in total.  It works beautifully now, and I've just saved me a buttload.  I love my crazy Asian cheapness and ingenuity.
