There are not enough words for me to express how heart-breaking this whole situation is. I've basically been reading the news non-stop since Sunday and the more I read that more sad and helpless I feel about all of it. The worst of it is that although the military may have dispersed the protesters, this is still far from over.

Up until today my family had been outside of the Red Shirt encampment zone (they live on Asoke) but apparently now it's spread to there and they've now packed up their things and are staying at in Rayong which is a town 2-3 hours from Bangkok. They seem to be ok though. I hope everyone else in Bangkok is keeping themselves safe. My thoughts go out to all of you.

I think this article explains the political situation in Thailand well - not just what has been happening now, but what has been happening since the past couple of decades and why we're in this situation now. It also talks about the Southern Insurgency which has more or less been swept underneath the table since the coup.
