Right. It's January 1st. So it's clearly time for some ridiculous January-based resolution.
This year... I didn't much fancy Dry January, so am experimenting with Wet January. This does not, in fact, mean that I have to spend every day of the month legless. However, I do have to have one different drink every day.
After extensive wrangling, here are the rules:
1. Every day, you must consume a drink which you have not yet consumed during January 2018.
2. Every day, you may only consume the drink from (1), plus any other drinks from previous January-based days.
3. A mixed drink is held to be indivisible. Drinking tea-with-milk does not allow you to add milk to the list (or black tea).
4. A drink is a drink. Beer is beer. Lager and stout are clearly different; Doom Bar and London Pride are not different. Any edge cases related to (say) Belgian nonsense to be taken before the panel for approval.
5. You get plain water, hot or cold, for free at the start of the month.
6. Obviously January starts when you get up on Jan 1st, and ends when you get up on Feb 1st.
The dilemma today was what the first drink to get onto the roster would be. What is the most important drink I want available - would it be tea? my morning staple of hot-water-with-lemon-juice?
As it turned out it was - completely accidentally - Coke. Having got myself through brunch and early afternoon with hot water, I was trying to control a somewhat noisy and violent coughing fit in the middle of The Last Jedi at the cinema. I swiped some of ChrisC's Coke in the hopes it would help. It did help, right up until the time I got home and realised that I'd accidentally used up my drink. Coke is a long way down my list of important drinks.
So, the next dilemma is what to have tomorrow. All other things being equal, I'd probably have hot-water-and-lemon-juice when I get up, tea when I get to work, mint tea during the rest of the working day, and beer when I get to the Lexington for a gig in the evening.
Yes, before you ask, I am doing this purely for my own amusement. I am very easily amused.
