The trick is: there is no trick.

I warned Ginny that if she didn't go to sleep I was going to break out the mining disaster ballads.

That's a fine plan! Beebs don't care what you're singing about, they just like the sound. And one day in twenty years she'll hear the same ballad and wonder why on earth she finds it so soothing!

And aren't they heavy! Ginny is (I'm told) rather under-sized for her age, but the trouble is that she's not an entry-level baby. I haven't had the 12 month weight-lifting course that her parents have had!
